“I'm in love!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

Lovely restaurant with amazing surrounding and great atmosphere. We came with our 4,5 son and he found a way to entertain himself which is what we need. Service was bit slow though, but maybe it was us a bit too much in hurry as this is THE place to relax and enjoy. Coming back very soon to try more of delicious dishes from menu.

“Magic place and exquisite food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012

We found this restaurant on the Lugano tourism website, as we were passing by the delightful village of Morcote. So, we decided to go there for dinner at the beginning of May.
The road to the restaurant through those particular villages on the edge of the cliff facing the lake is already a very nice experience, but the true beauty appears when you get out of the forest and you feel like you just reached heaven. Suddenly, you are surrounded by green fields and horses, where a small building made with stones lays between secular trees...
The venue itself is very tidy and nice, with wooden furniture and tables, the atmosphere is elegant but also very cosy.
Our dinner on the terrace has been a sensorial experience, we started with a platter of cheeses accompanied with different kinds of home-made bread. We had also some nice wine, which we have been told that it has been produced in the nearby vineyards of “Castello di Morcote”. Our first course was a dish of green gnocchi with speck and “provola cheese”, an exquisitely fine dish. As a main course we had some excellent lamb ribs, fine taste and lovely presented in an original way with a crusty layer of pasta on top and a side of fresh vegetables. We suggest to try also the soft chocolate cake, which is awesome.
The service was very professional and polite, they even gave us some information about nice walks and activities to do around there.
While we were dining, the atmosphere was simply magic. The light of the sunset , the horses, the beauty of the nature...it was a perfect oasis of peace...or even better, we could say that the Restaurant Vicania was somewhere close to heaven.

“Hidden on the Mountaintop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2011

Searching on the Michelin Website for Restaurants in the area the Alpe Vicania showed up and we tried it out. It was not so easy to find as the road leading up there through forest was for some parts as wide as my car. On top you arrive at a beautiful meadow with the restaurant located on the side of the hill. The service was great. The dining room was very nicely decorated in a rustic but modern style. The table was set nicely with table cloth, cloth napkins, wine glass, water glass.
The menu was relatively short with seasonal items. Basically meat, chicken, fish and vegetarian was covered. Although the surroundings are rustic the menu items are not. Just like a lot of good Swiss restaurants the wine list is extensive.
The food we ordered was very well presented and prepared. The taste was very good. It almost seemed a bit out of place to have such good non-basic food in a hut on the hill. The place was a very good value concerning the wines, food and ambiance.
I would recommend this place to any traveler that appreciates good food and a nice wine.
