“Visit only if you have seen all other places around Mumbai”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2011

We visited Lavasa on 31st May -2nd June 2011. Lavasa is about 220 Km from Mumbai and is in news recently for aleged enviromental violations. The drive to Lavasa is quite pleasant as it goes through a zig-zag once you leave Chandni Chowk (Pune). There are some sudden curves and peaks which may make it little difficult for a new driver. We stayed at Fortune hotel for 2 nights. Here the rooms are very small compared to a 4/5 star standard. If you have 1/2 children you will find it very difficult to stay as there is very little space to move around in the room. Also they do not provide iron in the room which is normally available in all 4/5 star now a days. The food at Fortune was quite okay but the restaurant timings were odd, the bar closing time was 11 PM bu their restaurant "Earthen Oven" closes at 10 PM.

Another big problem at Lavasa is the availability of decent food at logical price. There are a total of 4-5 restaurants at Lavasa and all of them are exorbitantly expensive. We ate at Chor Bizarre, 3 soft drinks and 2 dishes with 2 rotis and rice costed us a cool 1500 rupees. Also the menu did not have enough options at any of the hotel.

Weather at Lavasa is quite pleasant during evenings and walk along the waterfront is refreshing. But you have nothing else to look in and around Lavasa.

Overall a strictly okay experience. Recommended for those people who have seen everything around Mumbai but do not have high expectations.

“Little lava,mostly gas......”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2011

Sometime back,I confessed to a timeshare executive that Lavasa was one place I was dying to visit and savour. He smiled, mysteriously.

So I hit the road on a saturday morning from Pune.

The gradient was at times steep and the curves tad too sharp. But,the drive was memorable.Pristine pure air, bird calls and lots of soothing greenery.

Then we entered Lavasa through a grand arch/portal.Where was Lavasa?Stare down the barrel, said the guard.

A lake of sorts. Some villas and bungalows.A tastefully painted service apartment building.A well appointed Information centre.

What else? Took nothing more than a couple of hours to see and grasp all there was to this city.

Lavasa is a futuristic city.Absolutely.Yes it may fruition in the future.May be,may be not.

It is an ambitious concept. No doubt.Tourist destination? All the tweaking in this world cannot sell it as one.

Silver lining:The boating.World class? May be.Definitely, the best in its class. In India. The water is totally clean.Safety is given paramount importance. The boats are imported from Australia and endowed with plush seats. The sound system is mind blowing.

“visting Lavasa ?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2010

Lavasa is poised to be a good destination. May be you want to wait for a year more,as there is a lot of construction going around the main hangout area. (on one side)

Sadly as you are going towards Lavasa there are no direction signs at all ! such a multi billioin $$ location and no direction signs on freeway / highway !!

On Pune-Banglore highway take Chandani Chawk exit. Do Not take Hinjewadi exit.

Still if you have to go, you can have a good time. The food places are open, the lake front is quite clean now and can enjoy trekking around. Do Drive around.

“Overhyped and not yet ready”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2010

I had heard a lot about Lavasa so my family and I decided to take a day trip to Lavasa from Pune. We took the route from Chandni Chowk to Lavasa and the drive is a good 2 hours. When we reached Lavasa we were in for a major disappointment. It is still a work under process. The only attractions are the water sports at the lake and the 2 five star hotels. They have created some buildings along the lake which seem like europian but i was very disappointed when i reached there and felt it was definitely not worth a second visit till a few years atleast when there has been plenty more development.
