Fort Pickens campground is in an excellent location, behind the $8 entrance gate to the National Park and within easy walking distance to both bay and gulf beaches. The sites do tend to be pretty close together and there aren't a lot of shady sites.
Mid-morning, on our last afternoon at the campground, we drove around and made notes of which sites had some shade. Some of these are probably tent-only; you'll have to check the campground reservation website to see.
The sites we thought had the very most shade were: E65, E66, D11 and D13
Other sites we thought had a good amount of shade included: D23, D24, E17, E61, E62 and E63
Sites that also had some shade: A4, A6, A7, A8, A10, A12, A15, A19, A21, A24, A25, A26, A38, B3, B6, D14, D25, E1, E22, E43, E45, E47 and E54
We did not use any sort of scientific measurement! ;-) We made this list for our own personal preferences and are sharing it hoping it might be of help to others. We did not note which sites are tent-only, or the size restrictions of any - you'll have to figure that out yourself from the reservation website.
