“Great Stay at the SpringHill Suites”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

My stayed at SpringHill Suites last week and had a wonderful experience. We are use to a condo and wasn't sure how we would like having a room with only a sitting area, mini fridge and microwave. We actually loved it! We had free breakfast that was very good, clean towels and our beds were made everyday. The three pools were great and never crowded. We rented chairs at the beach for the week, and was surprisingly shocked the beaches were not crowded. Thank you for making our vacation week awesome!

I was looking for a mid range price Hotel on the beach and settled on this Marriott property. It had 2 adult pools one kiddie pool and a hot tub with an open air bar out by the pool. The free breakfast came in handy since the first thing I wanted to do was hit the beach early in the morning before the noon day sun was out. Breakfast was the usual fare nothing noteworthy. I have to say that my first impression upon entering the lobby was one that it could use more attention to cleaning. the walk way into the hotel needed to be swept up and cleaned and that did not happen for the four nights I was there. The second night of our stay the fire alarm went off at 4:00am and gave everyone a panic attack! The manager was apologetic but that did not make up for being completely jolted out of bed.
The beach was gorgeous as were all the beaches in Pensacola. The drawback was the trek from the pool area to the water was tough due to walking in sand and did not have a boardwalk like the property next door. The umbrellas on the beach were for rent and most people made prior reservations the day before so you had to find the person renting them out so you aren't taking someone else's reserved spot.$35.00 for an all day rental of 2 chairs and an umbrella.
We rented the 2 man kayak for $20.00 an hour and paddled out to where the dolphins were feeding.Parking was free , the room décor was very outdated but was clean. The bed was very comfortable and housekeeping was spotty. We settled for clean towels and trash removal on two of the four days there because they didn't want to come in while we were in the room. Front desk was very helpful and provided everything we asked for, such as an extension cord for cell phones. Their wasn't enough furniture for luggage so the children had to store theirs on the floor. The room had a ceiling fan we could not use because it was out of balance and made a loud noise, but would have been welcomed to keep the room cooler. Having a refrigerator and microwave came in very handy for the leftovers we seemed to collect. The front desk gave out pool /beach towels readily and we didn't have to sign for them. Overall I would recommend this for a family stay but not if you are looking for a romantic get away.

Room Tip: Our room came with the Island view and was on the side of the building, but our balcony was situated...

Green Features: Noticed recycle trash bins. The beach could have been better kept. There were plastic bottles, drinking straws, plastic bags strewn in the sand. I felt compelled to pick up because I am a save the Earth advocate! I just wish others were!

Thank you for taking the time to let me know how we are doing. I apologize that your first impression was less than great, and will definitely address the lobby area with the proper staff. I understand what an inconvenience the fire alarm going off in the middle of the night is and very sorry that it happen. I am happy that the front desk was helpful and assisted you in what you needed. We are scheduled for a renovation this fall that will fix the rooms being outdated as you indicated. Please let me know if you need anything else, or would to discuss your reservation further.

This is our second time in three years to stay at this property. We are Marriott reward members and Vacation Club Owners. This is the only beachfront Marriott property from Pensacola to Panama City. We find it a great value to be able to use Reward points for a beach vacation. Yes, the hotel is small. No, it's not a luxury resort (and doesn't advertise as such) but does have clean comfortable rooms, nice pools, and great beach access. Love being able to catch the trolley for dinners. The main thing I noticed is that management should put a stop to people taking excessive amounts of food to their rooms from the breakfast area. I saw several larger groups eating breakfast then taking 6 or 8 extra muffins, yogurt, and fruits to their room!

2014 the Blue Angels are back and SpringHill is still Top Class and the best place to stay for the show. You can walk to the public beach if you choose and can walk to all the restaurants on the strip- to avoid the crazy traffic of the Blue Angels weekend. The hotel has everything you need great pool, kiddie pool for the kids, plenty of parking, sandwich shop to get lunch, I love it here.

Despite the good location and good front desk service, the property leaves much to be desired as does the breakfast.

LOCATION: Can't be beat, it's right on the beach, within walking distance of many restaurants and the boardwalk. Parking is free.

BEACH/POOL: Beach area was very accessible and very clean. I don't recall seeing a lifeguard station. Hotels here don't have beach chair service but there is a company that rents them out and they do a nice job. We didn't use them but believe they are $34/day for a 2-chair & 1 umbrella set-up. The pool area was nice, especially for kids. There is a small tiki bar that sells drinks and sandwiches that we didn't use but seemed adequate.

SERVICE: Front desk staff was very courteous and addressed all our needs. Can't complain about that.

ROOM: The room was cramped and the layout was not efficient. The beds are right there as you open the door. There is only one closet (as wide as a regular door) so there is not enough room to put all the suitcases or unpack (our luggage was spread on the floor). There are no plugs to charge phones by the night stands, we had to use the ones on the wall and set the phones on the floor for our wake up alarm. The beds were very comfortable, as was the sleeper sofa. The A/C worked very well. There is a desk and desk chair, but we would have preferred a dining table with a few chairs instead. There was a small fridge and sink, with some cabinet space, which was nice. The bathroom sink was separate from the shower/toilet area, which was convenient. There was no vent in the shower room to let the steam out. The carpet and furnishings were dated, but they looked clean. For whatever reason, housekeeping skipped our room one day, which was a shock when we got back to the room at 10 pm. We never got a note saying why they did this. Front desk did offer to send someone to service the room, but it was late and we just settled to get fresh towels and take the trash out.

BREAKFAST: The breakfast was unremarkable. Selection was the same every day - scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, breads, belgian waffles, oatmeal, cereals. The oatmeal was really good but the eggs were chewy and bland. Fruit was only apples and bananas. The styrofoam plates and cups made the whole thing look cheap. Also it only goes to 9:30 am.

VALUE: Pensacola is a very expensive destination for lodging. Despite this being one of the most economical hotels on the beach, our rate (with parking lot view) was higher than in some luxury hotels we've been to recently (for instance, the Ritz Carlton in San Juan with full breakfast and valet included or the Hilton Resort in Ft. Lauderdale with beach view and full kitchen & living room). The beach is comparable to other areas, so we don't believe the premium rates are warranted but it's a free marketplace and I recognize all properties will set the rates to accommodate the demand.

Green Features: Only saw one recycling bin in the pool area but it had a garbage bag inside so we're not sure what it was for. We didn't see or learn of other recycling options. With breakfast being served on styrofoam plates and cups, that's an awful lot of trash to be called environmentally friendly.

I'll start off with the positive things. The hotel is right on the beach and is family friendly. There is an entirely separate "kiddy pool" area for the little ones. Our room was very clean; however, there was a very unpleasant odor present during our entire stay. I had to spray air freshener every couple of hours just to be able to stand it. The sofa in our room was very worn and sunken in at the middle. The furniture definitely needs to be replaced. The beds were extremely comfortable, though!!! The beach area of the hotel was very crowded and we ended up driving to a beach in Ft. Pickens just to get away from all the people and the beach rental chairs and umbrellas that kept obstructing the view. This hotel was considerably cheaper than other nearby hotels. A renovation definitely wouldn't hurt.

Stayed for 4 nights. We thought this was a nice hotel. It's a smaller property, sitting next to a high rise and houses on the other side. If you want a lot of amenities, this is not the place for you. We happened to prefer the smaller hotel. Staff is very helpful and for the size of the hotel there seemed to be a lot of staff.

There are two pools, plus a kiddie pool with water features. And a hot tub. All were clean and well attended. There is a small bar at the pool and a snack bar inside. The hotel is right on the beach. The beach is clean and free of obstacles in the water. We did start to have jelly fish towards the end of our stay; not huge ones and not massive numbers. The water is crystal clear.

The rooms and common areas were very clean. Kudos to housekeeping, especially at a beach hotel. The hallways did look a bit dated and some of the furniture in the room was a bit old. But it was all comfy. The bed was on the soft side.

The only downside of this hotel is the hallway noise. The doors are far from soundproof, the beds are next to the door and it can get quite noisy, especially if you are near an elevator. If there is any way to better soundproof at least the doors by the elevators, I'm sure the guests would appreciate it.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for a beach view room.
