Nice hotel. Ok room standard. (The TV could have been better)

Great breakfast buffet (but not included in price).
Great hotel bar with affordable snacks and good beer,

Close to shops and restaurants.
Transportation is a cab ride away.

All staff speak English.

We enjoyed our stay at Four Points Taipei. We got a good rate for two nights and used Starwood points for last night. Hotel staff was very friendly the whole time, also the GM chatted a bit as we were ordering some cakes to our room and he took time to explain Chinese culture etc as we stayed over CNY. To get to and from the hotel we used the hotel limousine which was reaonable (about USD 50) and the driver waited for us and had water in the car which was a Mercedes.

Breakfast was ok and good enough. We did not try the restaurant for any other meals as we spent most time in Taipei city or with friends. The room service and mini bar was very reaonably priced.

Do note this hotel is not in the city and you need to take a taxi to the metro station and then about 15 mins on the metro to reach city centre and Taipei 101 etc. But, it worked for us as we visited friends who lived nearby and the rate was much better than at Westin or Sheraton in the city centre (we normally stay Starwood). So if you dont mind to spend 25mins each way to save USD 100+ per night this is a good place to stay.

In Taipei make sure you visit the food markets, they are great and as portions not huge you can sample many things. Also try the dumpling places in the city centre. Truly delicious.

We stayed at this hotel twice in May 2009, first for 4 nights and then again for 1 more night, prior to returning home. The hotel is lovely. It is easily the nicest Four Points I have stayed in, reflecting the mid-upscale nature of a regular Sheraton (or Marriott or Hilton). The rooms are very large and clean, the bathrooms well-equipped, with plenty of amenities. Lobby is small but very nice. There are a lounge, bakery, and business center on the ground floor. We stayed once on the 11th floor and once on the 12th, and we had no problem accessing the free wifi on both laptop and iPhone. The staff is, as everyone else has pointed out, highly friendly and accommodating.

True the hotel is not in the center of town, but the area is safe, and there are small restaurants, convenience stores, and street vendors in walking distance. To get into the heart of the city, you just take a 10-minute (US$3/TWD100) cab ride to the Jing An metro station, and from there you can get anywhere in the city in just a few minutes. Taxis were always available when we wanted one, right outside the hotel.

Hotel-arranged taxi ride to the Taipei Int'l Airport is TWD1100 (approx. US$35), which isn't too bad. You can also take a combo of taxis, buses, and trains to get there for much cheaper (but we had too much luggage :) ).

For those of you who collect Starpoints, you should know this hotel is in the lowest category for redemption, making it an amazing bargain! Because we used points, breakfast was not included, and we did not eat any meals at the hotel, so we cannot comment on the food. We did not venture to the pool or gym, but I suspect they were lovely, as well.

It was just for one night of my transit in Taipei. I have same opinion about the location like others below. Because of the description in the hotel's own homepage I mistook it until my check-in. Check-in staff explained me what kind of transport is useful. This hotel is not in Taipei city. You can choice one from a wide variety of bus and metro route. It is about 30 min. to center of Taipei. As I have hired a limousine taxi on a two-day contract at airport, this her suggestion was not important to me. But it was helpful to know where I was in Taiwan. Anyway, every staff were very helpful and friendly. Especially I would like to express my sincere thanks to one nice staff for her consciousness. She was maybe a Manager. I was in a robby for a while, waiting for my room to be finished, because I was arrived too much earlier than when I expected. She asked and served me a coffee gratis. This is the hospitality. The room was cozy in a high-floor, well equipped with a open view. I had regretably no time to use fitness and spa facilities. Generally this is nice hotel. The value is due to good staff.

The location of the hotel may not be terribly convenient but we had a driver every morning so it didn't affect us that much. But I must say something about the customer service of this hotel! It is simply amazing, with all the staff paying attention to every detail and making our stay very pleasant. The most amazing was, I stayed there over my birthday and the hotel staff delivered a birthday cake with a card from the management. I don't know how they found out it was my birthday, probably from the passport when I checked in. I was pleasantly surprised by the nice gesture. Everyone, from the manager, to the customer service assistants to the porter were very friendly and helpful.

All of the above is true. The hotel is great. The location is horrible. The bathrooms are clean and nice. The staff is very accommodating. The view from the rooms in the rear are overlooking slums, and there's an elevated highway in the front. The building is nice in the picture (and in reality) but if you notice the picture doesn't show anything around it and for good reason. The surrounding neighborhood is filthy even by Taiwan's standards. There are no sanitary restaurants nearby to my knowledge. Since the hotel is not actually in Taipei it's a cab ride to the subway and a 15 minute ride to town.

Being so far away means that you need to plan your day more, which as a spontaneous traveler is not for me. If that doesn't bother you then this is a great cheaper option to the hotels in the city.
