“Great value for hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

Stayed here June 2012 with my dad. Location is far from the places that we wanted to visit like Shilin night market, National Palace Museum etc but LRT station is right beside the hotel. Hotel has great rooms. Clean, very clean actually. Outside the window is the Bitan which is quite pretty. Strolling there after a heavy dinner, enjoying the night breeze just feels great. Breakfast was good, not much variety but for the price we pay, around NT2500 I think it was good enough. Bathroom is transparent, don't like it.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Bitan would be good.

New California Hotel is located directly opposite the Xindian MRT station and that being the last station has many advantages especially so during peak hours when you board the MRT. The bus station is also directly opposite the hotel. From the airport you can board bus number 2068 which costs NT135 and you will be dropped almost at the doorstep of the hotel and when heading for the airport just cross the street from the hotel. I think this bus service is every half and hour.

Before I booked this hotel, I read some negative reports about the hotel particularly on the staff and service. This is all unfounded. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Service was good. It's was like home for my 11 days stay there

I got a room on 3rd floor facing the lake, Room 305. Room was a little small but bearable. Clean bath/toilet and sheets and towels were sparkling white.

I booked through Expedia and I was charged about RM200 plus for a night versus approximately RM180 booking directly with the hotel. During week days the rate is NT1780 and weekend rate is NT2380 (not sure if it is NT2280 or 2380). But I was charged a flat rate of NT1780 per night for 11 days there (discounted). For stays above 7 nights they accord a special price.

Going to Shihlin night market is just a MRT ride away. No need to change MRT. Going to Wulai is a direct bus ride away and to Maokung is also a direct bus ride away. I find this to be most convenient

If I ever visit Taipei again, this will be the hotel for me again

This hotel is just next to the metro within one minute walking. I came here for business and had only one day free to visit the city. The price is good. The location is perfect. The breakfast is acceptable. The room is clean. The shower is not that hot but acceptable. It is next to Bi-Tang bridge and it's very cozy to stay there for one afternoon walking and bicycling. Though it cannot compete the five star hotel service and quality but compare to the location convenience, the price is reasonable.

Being frequent visitors to Taipei, this would have to be the best hotel we stayed in. We really dont stay in very pricey hotels and would really try our best to search the internet for hidden gems. This one is absolutely precious. It is not expensive. I think we paid about 65-70$/night for 5 nights. The rooms looked like new, not too big but spacious enough. The best part about it?

Location! From the airport, just hop on the airport bus that will bring you to the Xindian MRT station. The hotel is right across the station, where the bus station is also located. No need to ride taxis which charge expensive fares. We loved the fact that the airport is just within reach because of the airport bus which makes its first and last stop beside the hotel. Taipei has also become within reach because of the MRT station across the hotel. Friends have said that Xindian is quite far from the city center, but if you just literally cross the road to get to the MRT, who cares!

Around the area, there are several Family Marts and 7-11s, a Mister Brown Cafe, there is also a milk tea place at the ground floor of the hotel. There is also a Mc Donald's nearby, and a nice massage place a few minutes down the road. Another good thing about this hotel is that it is located beside the Bintan Lake. This was just awesome. You get a good view of it from your hotel room, and walking there during the early evening was fantastic. the lake is lighted up giving you a fantastic scenery. There is a bike and jog trail beside the lake, plus several cafes and restaurants. You may also want to walk through the suspension bridge which brings you to the other side of the lake. This would make for a good stroll in the evening. Me and my wife even went for a walk in the dead of the night and never felt scared at all.

We are not fans of Taiwanese cuisine, though, so we never really cared much for their breakfast. The staff spoke basic English but I couldnt say that they were really friendly.

It is not the Bellagio, but because of convenience and location, it is really just perfect for us!

We took CitiAir Bus 2068 (Da Yo Bus) at Tao Yuan International Airport to this hotel for less than USD $5 each person and the bus stop and MRT Xindian Station is right next to this hotel. This hotel is a very newly renovated one just like brand new. The room they gave us has a great view of Bitan and was spacious with very modern amenities and decoration. Free bottle water and coffee/tea and Snacks were provided in room. The complimentary breakfast on the rooftop were pretty good but way to crowded even in the early morning. We walked to Bitan and of course the most famous suspension bridge and enjoyed it very much. You can walk there day and night and maybe rent a boat with a very reasonable price.

Room Tip: Asked the time the large tour group having breakfast and avoid that time.

We stayed there for 6 nights. from airport, a public bus can drop you off right at the xindian mrt station which is right across the hotel for tw370/pax. the hotel provides wifi inside each room. room size is pretty small but clean. free breakfast was decent but don't expect much. some snacks and drinks are provided at the lobby. the real beauty about this hotel is its location. across mrt. 3 convenient stores nearby. kfc across, and mcdonald's 3 min walk. 2 coffee shops steps away, and a cantonese restaurant 2nd floor of mrt station. bitan suspension bridge is next to this hotel. a little further down is a mini night market where you can buy fresh fruits and street food. there are some nice clothes, jackets and shoes for decent price. there is a public bus across the hotel which will take you right to the wulai village where you can experience the breathtaking waterfalls and cascades and the multiple scenic views (you will have to climb a lot of steps but can rest along the way). bus fare is only tw20/pax one way. there is a small dept store called RT mart 10 minute away. you can find all kinds of good stuff and grocery in there, it's amazingly cheap. don't wait up, book with this perfect hotel

My sons and I stayed here for 3 nights around Christmas. We were very happy with the service and the room. Although the room was small, they were willing to add an extra bed for us (for a small nightly fee). The best feature of the hotel is its location. It's right across from the Xindian MRT station, which is just a short ride (20 min) away from Taipei's city center. Not only that, the hotel is located right by a picturesque river, in the Bitan Scenic Area. The promenade along the river is a great place for a morning stroll, and riverside cafes and eateries abound in the evenings.

The room itself was clean and adequate for everything we needed. The internet worked great (both wired and wifi). Coffee, tea, and extra munchies were provided for free (nice!). There were plenty of movie channels for the kids (not that we had the time after a full day of sightseeing). The bed was very comfortable, which, for a 3-star hotel, is more than I can expect. Soft, clean, and comfy pillows and comforters made for very restful nights. The only negative is that the rooms do not have heat--I guess this is not a common feature in SE Asia. In the winter, it can get chilly in the rooms.

The breakfast, as reviewed by others, was not their best feature, although it was better than I had expected. It was definitely a Taiwanese-style breakfast, and I am happy with that. They do have toast and rolls, coffee and tea, which is what you get in most 3-star hotels anyway. So I can't complain (though they really can do better in keep their food hot).

Finally, the service. Great hotel staff. Nice and friendly, and they really do get to know you by name. So, for a little mid-range business hotel that treats you like a VIP and gives you a good-night's sleep, you really can't do better than staying at New California in Xindian. I'd definitely stay there again when I travel to Taipei.
