“Something different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

Light house is not open to the public but a nice walk along the headland to see it from the other side of the fence. You can also see a shipwreck on the beach. It was a pleasant visit and worth doing if you enjoy the outdoors and a walk, however if you're expecting to get close to a lighthouse then you would be disappointed. There is a café in the car park well worth visiting!!

“Great coastline”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Fantastic approach all the way along the coastal footpath from Hartland Quay. Radio Station is a bit of a blot on the landscape

“Breath taking views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

We spotted the brown sign for Hartland Point whilst on holiday in Cornwall and decided to investigate. We pulled into a quiet car park so wasn't expecting to much but after a short climb was met by a beautiful white lighthouse nestled in the rocks and down below us on the beach was a large ship wreck, we sat for a while and watched many types of sea birds diving and feeding and to our amazement there suddenly appeared 3 seals, we sat for several hours watching them dive and bask on the rocks and beach. It was an amazing afternoon and would highly recommend to animal and nature lovers

“Fantastic views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

We walked the Coast Path and loved the scenery round Hartland Point.

Visitors need to understand that the lighthouse is not open to the public and you can not get down to the lighthouse. Don't visit if you expect a lighthouse visit!

However, it is definitely worth visiting to see Hartland Point and the view from the old Coastguard station near the car park is excellent.

I would recommend walking the coast path round towards Hartland Quay as the views are absolutely stunning.

You can walk 1km along the coast and then walk back inland past Blagdon Farm and back to the lighthouse. Or you can walk miles along the cliffs enjoying the views as you go up the cliff and then down to the next valley!

As far as I could see the car park was free in October but I was walking so wasn't really bothered whether they charged cars or not!

“As remote and rugged as they come”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

This is a fantastic place - I park here every time I go over to Lundy on the helicopter in the winter months, and contrary to what some have said, the car parking fees are not exorbitant at all - as for a refund - it's not the staff's fault if you choose not to stay, but your own choice.

The lighthouse area might be closed, but there is a viewing area slightly further along the coast from where you can obtain good views. The views are tremendous in every direction and in all weathers - particularly exhilerating on a windy day.

For those who are reasonably fit, I would recommend the 1 1/2 to 2 hour walk to Hartland Quay. It is steep in places, but you would be hard pressed to find scenery like this anywhere else in the southwest (other of course than on Lundy itself).

The little cafe is open throughout the summer season offering an excellent range of teas, coffees etc (and gluten free cake), and on Lundy flying days (Mondays and Fridays) in the winter. Toilets are also available a short walk away outside the portacabin at the Lundy heliport - if you can't find them, then use a bush!

Yes, it is remote and rugged, but that is exactly what makes this such a brilliant place to be.
