My brother and I spent 4 nights camping here last week. We saw the bison, wild horses, prairie dogs, and even a snake. We enjoyed the South Unit much more than the North Unit which may not be worth the trip for time constrained people. Most of the wildlife is viewable in the South Unit and the views are spectacular. It was awesome. As for the campsite, we encountered a problem along with other campers. We set up camp on a lot with 2 tents and a tarp that took a few hours. The hostess approached us and told us someone else had paid for the lot for a few more days. The prior campers had stayed 5 days and paid for a week. However, they left the site abandoned and we took a chance they had left early. We said we'd leave if they showed back up which they didn't. The same thing happened on the lot next to us a few days later and it was not used for a night even though campers had inquired about it. The campsite is set up first come and people need to leave something to show they haven't left. It says at checkin to place something in the lot to show it is occupied. We ended up with the best campsite so no complaints, but the policy needs to change where people pay ahead and leave early.
