“Need to be frank about the room!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

Just came back from our trip to Sequoia. Stayed at this lodge on July 5 for one night. Very unhappy with the room stayed. Appeared that they're hiding some facts to make us reserve for this so called the "Suite" with 2 kings & 2 bunks. We're two families of two adults (couples) & two boys (total 8). They offered my friend the "Suite" and she asked them about the difference between the suite for 8 and two single rooms for 8. They told her there's no difference except that the rooms for the suite has a connecting door between the two rooms. When I called few days after to make a new reservation for another family (a single room with a King & a bunk), I asked about them the suite again & was given the same answer. So, I'd like to make it clear here what "a suite" with 2 Kings & 2 bunks means at Montecito: there's only one bathroom between the two rooms. So, 8 people will have to share the same bathroom. Since it's a shared bathroom (with a sink, a shower & a toilet) between the two rooms, there should be a close door for each room for privacy purpose but that's not the case. The room without a window (yes, without window) has a close door but not the other one. Yes, no close door for the room!! This is a lodge without air-conditioning. No window!!! Worse is that the toilet is old & clog after 3 uses!! We ended up have to use the toilet in the lobby to ........

I agree with the other visitors about the location and activities available at the lodge. I wouldn't have given a poor review if it's not because they're hiding some facts about the suite. It could be that no other visitors will want to reserve it. We'd have reserved 3 separate rooms with a King & a Bunk each & be happy visitors. Another thing to mention here is that the bottom bed for the bunk was very low.

This is the summer camp you dreamed of as a kid. Activities for every age, great counselors for the kids, swimming, boating, biking, crafts, tennis, archery, you name it plus all the meals included. Just a fabulous family vacation! Tons to choose from for both parents and kids.

Room Tip: We just stay in the lodge. You don't spend much time in your room, so it doesn't matter!

I've visited Montecito Sequoia Lodge many times, in both summer (Family Camp) and fall. Although I'm a single female, I stay there annually with my extended family, whose members range in age from toddler (when we first visited, 8+ years ago) to retiree.
The quality of the staff, combined with the delicious food and the pleasant lodgings, make my annual stays rewarding and rejuvenating. From the unobtrusively attentive directors to the accommodating custodial staff and friendly camp counselors, the well trained staff are a credit to the organization. The Family Camp and off-season activities, including the nightly special events, are diverse, well organized, and engaging. There are also many opportunities for rejuvenation and relaxation, including yoga and many easy hikes. The rooms, facilities and grounds are consistently well maintained and constantly improving.
According to feedback from my own family and from many other guests, the food is consistently tasty, well presented and healthful (I'm a vegetarian athlete). I especially appreciated the variety and freshness of available fruits, vegetables and other hard-to-source ingredients. Beyond broad meal times, food and snacks are on offer 24-7.
As a solo, I've always felt comfortable with the opportunities to interact with other guests. I always appreciate the freedom to participate in as many or as few activities (day- and nighttime), as feels comfortable. In addition, the kids in our family always enjoy the flexibility, during our Family Camp visits, to decide ad hoc whether to join their respective age-group activity (archery, swimming, etc.) or to do a separate available activity. As a solo traveler, I’ve never been disturbed by children behaving inappropriately or unmanageably. Several other guests, many of whom are loyal returnees, have even become family friends.
I’ve learned from dozens of other guests and from our own experiences, that unfavorable reviews probably come from unrealistic reviewer expectations of Club Med-like oases (or even child-free couples’ paradises). Instead, Montecito Sequoia Lodge offers attentive service, tasty food, engaging events and well maintained lodgings, in a beautiful setting. The responsive and well trained staff members are a highlight of this resort. Add the soul-enriching scenery and you have the recipe for one of the best vacations possible for your family and/or yourself.

Travelers please keep in mind that this lodge is in the middle of Sequoia National Park and is run by the park service and therefore not a resort type setting. However the location is amazing. You can get almost anywhere in the park within an hour if not less. It's run like a summer camp, so expect groups of teenagers, but they are fairly well behaved and respectful. This is NOT a romantic getaway for couples, it is geared towards active families or couples who love the outdoors. In fact you have to wheelbarrow your own belongings to your cabin, no bellhop here!

Meals are served at certain times in a buffet setting where you eat with other travelers. The food is not gourmet by any means, but after a long day of hiking you will gobble it up. The lodge rooms are clean, have reliable hot water, but the walls can be thin depending on which room you get, so be aware and bring earplugs if necessary.

There is a beautiful lake on the premises that you can take canoes out for free. Rooms don't have TV or phone so bring your Kindle or some books, but the main lodge has Internet and TV so you can head there if you need to connect. There are many activities to take part in if you so choose such as archery, astronomy, or hiking. For the price and location within the park this place cant be beat, just know what to expect ahead of time and you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: We had the room above the ski lodge which was great because it was closed during our visit and there...

Every time we return to this magical location, smiles appear on all of our faces. The first time we came to Montecito Sequoia was in April seven years ago. Snow was falling and it was so beautiful. Warm, friendly staff and excellent food. Family style dining experience guarantees meeting new people at every meal. Summertime is no different. Always lots of activities to choose from for all members of the family. Family camp in the summer keeps the kids busy from early morning until the end of campfire songs at night. Lake front activities are well monitored for safety with canoes, paddle boards, swimming, sailing, fishing, tubing, a raft with a slide. There is also horse back riding, archery, riflery, tennis, hiking, paint ball, fencing, arts & crafts, trampoline and much more. When as your kids grow up, they can apply for the leadership program called KILTS (Kids in Leadership Training) which is like being a junior counselor. The program runs for three weeks and teenagers love it. We've had two of our kids go through the program. Bottom line, it doesn't get much better than this for family time and a spiritual experience!

Room Tip: There are many options for rooms. Family cabins, lodge rooms and combo units. Some have private bath...

Sequioa area struggles with options and any sort of value, so we booked this as it was a #1 rating on here. It didn't do it for us. Very cheap but reflected in the quality.

Very noisy, walls paper thin. Room was by the stair well, with a bar football table below our bedroom window.

Rooms were basic but not grotty. Bathroom in need of an upgrade. Cheapo type bed.

Food and drinks were included but school dinner quality at best to be honest.

It's used as a camp probably aimed at schools / student groups and its perfect for type of
stay. There were no camps / groups staying while were there but it still didn't tick the boxes. If your looking for peace and quiet to soak up the surroundings, hen this won't be your sort of stay. Location is perfect however. Another plus was free wi-fi if you from europe and trying to save on roaming costs.

Room Tip: That's a struggle to be honest.

Montecito Lake Resort In Sequoias Redwood Park
Great place for family vacation all inclusive. Horse Back Riding, Paddle Boats, Even skiing and wake boarding when water is high enough, Paint Ball, Airsoft, Archery, Mountain Bikes, Pool, Beautiful Lake, they filmed the original Parent Trap Movie, trampoline, basket ball, tennis, hiking, rock climbing, arts and crafts. Things for toddlers, teens and adults. Seriously so many things to do I cant even begin to list them. We had a after season party for the Gymnastics Team there last weekend it was so much fun. They have camp counselors will keep the kids so busy you wont get to see them unless you make them eat with you at the three awesome meals aday.
6 days adventure camp in the Lake Cabin which included two bed rooms one with two sets of bunk beds, and the other room had a king size bed.the rooms were beautiful awesome linens comfortable beds but no TVs you wont need one and that is coming from the queen TV junkie!
I was exhausted but had an amazing time cant wait to go with my family and friends! Did I say three amazing meals aday!!

Room Tip: We had a great cabin in Lake View Cabin but all Cabins are great.
