“Wonderful Sequoia Mountain Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2012

There is so much I can say about this wonderful lodge with fantastic panoramic snow covered high mountian views. The vistas of the 12,000 ft elevation to 14,000 ft are beyond words. The chef is one of the best we have ever encountered, and we have been to 5 star hotels in Southern California Coastline many times. The food is top rate and prepared with wonderful sauces, which of course makes the meal.
Our room had the best views, but everyone here was saying that about their rooms.
The lake is a mirror of the huge lush deep green forest that abounds here. We have been here now for four days.
The woman who is the head manager is very kind, attentive and professional. She has a cheerful dispositon and has chosen the finest cheerful young men and women to take care of the everyday needs. All the employees are friendly and seek to meet any need that may come up, and with a big smile and enthusiasm.
The great room with it's large fireplace is in itself a very special place to enjoy new found friends or have some quiet time with one's spouse.
The furniture in the common rooms and guest rooms appears to be very new classic "Arts and Crafts" style otherwise known as Craftsman Style. made from heavy oak wood and beautifully stained a warm tone.
Bathrooms are modern and always hot water. Room was very clean and the soaps/shampoo have a very pleasant mild mountain cinnamon bark scent that I have asked my wife to try to find because I can't stand the perfume types we always get at the 5 star hotels we have stayed at. This was are first stay here and it was recommended by the rangers we met in the National Park. For everyday we have been here the rest of the customers we just as surprised and pleased as we were!!!
Two thumbs up to the owners and to the whole staff! Many Thanks!

I booked a kingsize room and although the decor and the buildings were old with wood panelling from the seventies, I found it clean enough. The cabin was on the shore of a beautiful lake and you can see the mountains of the kings canyon from the deck ... A stunning setting, clone to the kings canyon road and generals highway.
For $80 I got the room, dinner and breakfast buffet, which I felt was great value. I was happy as the food was good and there were many gluten free options. You can help yourself to coffee and soft drinks at any time and there are printed sheets with information on local hikes and areas. There is wifi in the main area and the cabins, but it can be slow

My only issue was the lack of control exercised by parents over their children. There were a lot of kids and it was family and child oriented. If you mind children, stay away. Many parents found it acceptable to have their children screaming and running around the dining area during mealtimes, the staff on duty did nothing to enforce any kind of mealtime behaviour, so in the end I left the dining area straight after dinner.

I visited Montecito Lodge with my partner in early April. The staff was absolutely fantastic - accommodating, helpful, and very kind. It is, indeed, a wonderful place for families but if you don't mind kids, it's a great place for couples too. If the noise came to be too much, it was easy for us to escape into the mountains on a pair of rented cross-country skis or snowshoes. The surrounding area - and the lodge property itself - was beautiful, a nice escape from the gloomy LA skies. The games in the lodge are a great addition and a good way to end a day of festivities and the meals were much better than we had anticipated. Overall, we had a wonderful time and definitely plan on returning.

Our family is smitten with the Montecito Sequoia Lodge. Found it online and decided to make a reservation for one night (moving to the John Muir Lodge the second night). This place is absolutely perfect for the price and we liked it so much we cancelled at the John Muir Lodge.

All meals are included and it made for a very relaxing experience not having to pay for 3 meals/day at a restaurant for 5 people. No, they do not serve gourmet food, but it was always tasty, fresh and honest. There is a large bank of cereals available 24hrs and they even had an area for gluten-free cereals. I've stayed at Four Seasons Hotels that do not even offer this, much less included in the cost of the room.

The staff was great. They really seemed to care about the facilities - I did an illicit walk through in the kitchen and found it very clean. This is an old resort with older facilities but everything was well maintained.

The rooms are spartan and do not include many typical hotel amenities (no TVs). But we found this not to be a problem and actually enjoyed not seeing or hearing a TV. Remember, this is a mountain lodge in a national park, and we found the rooms to be perfectly fine.

$129/nt for 3 adults and 2 kids all meals included?!?! You can't beat that! We can't wait to return.

This place isn't worth that money in any, way, shape, or form. Anybody that says this is great for couples was hit on the head. This is only for large families, and people who want to deal with children throughout your entire stay. During our stay their was a large group that had at least five kids. They were in the common room till at least 11:30, stomping up and down the stairs and running down the halls till at least midnight. The room walls don't stop sound and neither do the doors. So after that group finally got quiet, babies started wailing and people would take them out to the hall way. So it was really fun listening to screaming infants all night long and the staff did nothing to intervene. The rooms are super tiny and over all pretty dingy. As for the bed, a bunk on an aircraft carrier was more comfortable. Yes, they do have a hot tub, but be prepared to deal with teenagers and little kids in it. The staff is made up entirely of indifferent teenagers, with a rude manager that responds to any problems you may bring up with "This is a family facility. This is just how it is." We chose this place because of the good reviews. Don't listen to them. This place was just plain bad. If you have a large family with a number of kids you aren't planning on watching, then this is right up your alley. Otherwise stay away. This isn't the place for a romantic anything with anybody. It's like every cliched summercamp movie, only in the snow. So like Meatballs, on a mountain. Only there isn't any comedic relief. Just your money flying away. The meals included aren't worth the hassle you will be taking on.

Room Tip: Don't go here.

We just heard about this place through word of mouth, and decided to go up for some snow play on the spur of the moment. I can't say enough nice things about this place as a family vacation spot. All your meals are included in your room rate, and the food is great. Plus there are snacks and beverages available all the time. We were won over when, after going out to play in the snow right after we arrived, we came in and found a big crock of delicious potato cheese soup available. Even though our children are only 3 and 5, we felt like we could actually relax part of the time because there were games and lots of other kids for them to play with. The sledding hill was just perfect- not too steep but steep enough to be fun. Though one of the pictures I saw here showed bunk beds with no side rails, the beds in our room had rails on the top bunks, and even removable rails (stashed under the bed) that you could put on the bottom bunks. We'll definitely be going back.

Our family absolutely loves this lodge. It is a little rustic, but I call it fancy camping because it's not a place to stay for sophisticated luxury. The food is excellent and it's one of the only places we can stay as a family in one lodge room. We have four children and there is a room with two sets of bunk beds and a king size for us parents. Did I mention that the food is excellent. There is internet access, ping pong tables, puzzles, organized activities and a bar. It is nice to enjoy other people staying there from all around. The staff is amazing with the kids and they actually take the kids on excursions by themselves in age groups. How terrific! Yes, the hot food service is limited to certain times of the day, but one can always go into the kitchen and help themselves to various salads, lunch meats, breads, cereals, soup and unlimited drinks. We love it.

Room Tip: Stay in the lodge, it's cozy and more convenient than staying in the ancillary buildings.
