We just returned from a 4th year of family camp. As always, we had a wonderful time. The draw here is the wonderful staff, many of whom return year after year, and who make the place home. The activities are great (waterskiing, horse back riding, archery, riflery, yoga, aerobics, swimming, paint ball, organized and unorganized hiking, mountain biking, water color painting, tie dying, etc.) and we don't see our kids for hours on end - if they didn't have to come home to the room to sleep, we might not see them at all. The scenery, of course, is sierra mountain magic (great wildflowers this year, by the way). The food is much better than we have a right to expect it to be and the beds much more comfortable. After all, it's summer camp, folks (complete with some of the silliest campfire songs ever imagined)!!
Yes, the carpets are in real need of cleaning (mugsy, please get someone in soon to do it), but they see a LOT of traffic. And yes, the water pressure is from gravity fed tanks and unreliable. We try to take our showers at non-peak times to get the best pressure.
And yes, you do have to bus your own dishes - there is no wait staff. No phone except one common one off the lobby (and you ARE blessedly out of cell phone range unless you hike up to the top of big baldy peak nearby) , but internet access is available (free) via satellite. If the above will just ruin your day, you shouldn't come. If the above are mere trifles, go on up and have the best family week ever!
