“Hidden Luxury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2008

This is a hidden beauty.

The cabin was beautiful and the scenery fantastic. I loved this place and would recommend to experience the real Sequoia.

The website was good but doesn't show you half of the amazing views and the experience.

It is quite isolated and a 25 minute drive up a 7 mile single track road but well worth it.

This place was *awesome*!

My BF and I went for a 4 day get-a-way and this place was perfect. It is far enough to be away from people, but not too far away. It is a 25 minute drive up a twisty mountain road, but that just put us 25 minutes away from other people and 25 minutes closer to the Mineral King hiking spectacular! Granted the sequoia's were great, but we actually preferred the less crowded, yet really beautiful Mineral King where we hiked, saw a bear, deer, lots of marmots and very few people.

Anyhoo, back to the cabin. It was incredibly clean and very nicely decorated. I'm not sure why a family of 4 would attempt staying in a single cabin, since the website for the cabins states there's only a queen sized bed and suggests that if you have kids to use both cabins. Although, they are quick to offer an air mattress if needed for extra sleeping area. The cabins are single room with a small kitchen and bathroom. There's a fantastic deck with a even more fantastic clean propane grill which we used to cook our meals every night.

Electricity in this secluded area is tricky, the neighbors don't even have electricity! No worries for the cabins though. They are powered by batteries that are charged by both solar and generator power. Obviously huge power suckers, like curling irons and hot plates are a no-no. There was plenty of power to keep our fridge cold, water pumping, lights on, XM radio on, and tv running (ok we didn't use the radio or tv, but both are furnished in the cabins). Water heating, air heating and cook top all run on gas. There was one snafu when the other cabin dwellers used a curling iron or something and sucked all the power out one morning, but it was quickly restored. Didn't matter since the stove still worked and we could cook our breakfast.

Owners are great! Really helpful and as I said they keep the place in tip-top shape. Lots of work has gone into this place to keep it clean and beautiful. The views are fantastic and you can listen to the river flowing nearby and watch the birds that hang out in the oak trees. There are also some rogue cows that wander around nearby (doesn't smell like cows at all though). We were really entertained by the cows and enjoyed petting a couple of horses that visited in the next field over.

Although there is one other cabin nearby, it is very private (conversations can't be overheard from one cabin to another). The bed was comfy and super clean, with fresh cotton sheets. Bathroom was equally clean with plenty of fresh towels and a clean shower with plenty of hot water. Although we were a couple looking for a romantic get-away, one day our neighbors were a family of 3 who also told us they had a fantastic time and the father and daughter spent a lot of time hiking around the cabin area near the river.

We can't wait to go back. I already miss laying on the deck at night, enjoying cool canyon breezes while watching the moon and stars above! I can also attest that there were many really positive things said by other visitors of our cabin in the guest book. People love this place!

Two great little cabins in the middle of nowhere. Ok, they're not really cabins, but they look like cabins - very nice & small. We went with small children and what was nice was that the place was fenced in and there were even cows & horses on the other side of the fence. Very little mountain road traffic made it very nice for our families. It is a bit removed - 25 minutes up a long, winding road from the main drag - has its good & bad side. The owners were great. Cabins were clean. Very quiet spot - we saw a few cars driving by but never saw another person up there in four days except the owners stopping by & neighbor who came looking for his dog.

  • Liked — It was just us chickens - nice to be next door to good friends
  • Disliked — Very small cabins (for a family of four) and a long winding drive to come/go
