“Great Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2005

If you're visiting Kings Canyon National Park, be sure to stay at the Cedar Grove Lodge within the park. I would recommend a minimum of a two night stay especially if you plan to hike to Pleasant Valley or Mist Falls. There's nothing special about the rooms but the view from the lodge is great. By the way, there are no televisions.

“worth the drive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2005

Very standard rooms, but they are clean and neat w/ little kitchenettes. If you go, try to get a patio room, you will hear the river rushing all night and the veiw is worth the extra money.

“Great location, bad service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2004

This lodge is located at the heart of Kings Canyon. I would give 5 star for its location, but I would like to give no star for how they operate the business.

Here's my experience..
After an hour of twisted mountain drive, I was told by hotel manager that the hotel was overbooked and there are no room available for my family to stay.
I made confirmation call the day before the trip. I also had confirmation letter from the hotel saying that a room is reserved for two nights stay in CedarGrove Lodge. However, regardless of all the confirmation they gave me beforehand.. they simply had no room to give out. They were explaining that there was mistake in their system, and they found the mistake couple hours before my arrival.
According to the manager, only thing they can offer me was in Grant Grove area, 30 miles back the way I came from.. going through twisted mountain drive AGAIN.

I asked if this was first time they are making mistake like this. His answer was 'yes'. And he's fully aware of problem in their reservation system.

Since I didn't get to stay at the hotel, I wouldn't know how their normal room service is.. But, if anyone is considering to stay at this hotel, you better prepare to find out surprise at last minute. It certainly ruined my vacation plan in Kings Canyon.

“What a treasure!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2004

Cedar Grove Lodge and Campgrounds lies deep within the Kings Canyon Park. It is well worth the long scenic drive into the park to reach the lodge. The lodge is yards away from the roaring, beautiful Kings River. The accommodations are very comfortable, not luxurious; but, the location and surrounding scenery well outway lack of luxury. We stayed there the last weekend in May. The days were warm and nights cold. There are many wonderful places to stay in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park, so we want to return and visit other places, perhaps. Yet, Cedar Grove Lodge and Campgrounds would be definitely on the top of our list for a return visit.
