I would recommend this Lodge to everyone. The rooms are very clean and nice with all the amenities. Coffee, big screen TV's, refrigerators, ironing boards, glasses, ice, etc. The beds were perfect. I never slept better. The linens were clean and soft. The room temp was perfect and had a very clean aroma. The staff was very friendly and helpful. And they have wonderful outside decks with wooden rocking chairs where you can sit back and enjoy the scenery and nature. Highly recommended.

Fairly nice lodge, nice rustic style furnishings, clean and quiet. The place has been recently updated so the overall appearance is fresh. We had an upstairs room with a view of the wooded hillside. Too bad we couldn't really enjoy that view because the blinds wouldn't stay open. The heater was very loud and so was the little refrigerator, had to turn them both off to get any sleep. The shower, Krueg coffee maker and toiletries were nice. We stayed 2 nights and although our toiletries and coffee fixings were renewed housekeeping left the bed unmade, weird. Free wi-fi in the lobby which also features a fireplace and lots of natural light. We bought the added breakfast package with our room and that turned out to be a mistake. The breakfast was a very ho-hum buffet, not worth what was charged. Maybe once the summer season starts there will be a breakfast menu, I'd check first if I were to stay here again. The dinner was fine all things considered. The rooms are expensive only because this is lodging in a National Park so there are very limited options if you don't feel like camping. The hiking was great, especially the trail to Mist Falls.

Room Tip: Second story, wooded side, away from the parking lot.

The lodge is located north the main entrance, about one hour driving. Unfortunately for my by the time we were at the top I was car sicked. The road is in good condition but lots and lots curves. Anyway the lodge is beautiful, close to the big trees trail a post office, a supermarket and a visitor centre. The room very cosy and confortable. We only stayed 2 nights but the park is soo huge it would take months. We arrived there in shorts and tshits and we found snow everywhere. . Chilly! Check the weather before going.
Food was nice and some options for vegetarian availeble which is nice.
I would go back

You don't come
To
Kings canyon or Yosemite for the accomodation- you go to get out into the parks. We found JM lodge to be suitable for our needs. It was clean and comfortable. There was a small issue finding a cot for our son but Brendan (who turned out to be the restaurant chef) did everything he could to make things right for us which we really appreciated. The food was good in the restaurant too. A great trip. Thank you.

Less crowded than Yosemite (which we love), hiking thru Kings Canyon was amazing, and loved the short hike to Grants Big Tree in the snow. Wished we had more time to go further out into the back country- and only got a short sort of glimpse of a bear!

Just got back from a weekend in Sequoia and Kins Canyon National Parks. Amazing!
Visited the Crystal Cave and checked out the General Sherman tree. Snow everywhere! Just beautiful!!!!
A little problem checking into the lodge, it seems they were doing maintenance on some rooms and the type of room was what we reserved. They gave us the option on going into a cabin but it was just not what we were looking for so after some negotiation we were given a nice room in the lodge. Everyone was friendly and helpful and understood our concerns.
The room was perfect so we were able to enjoy the lodge as well as our adventure in Sequoia/Kings Canyon without any other issues.

By the way on the way out of Crystal Cave we found a bag of food and a backpack on the side of the road. No ID.
Food scattered and opened so the food was thrown away to avoid bears or other animals getting to it. Any one lose a backpack?

The John Muir Lodge is a beautiful building in a gorgeous setting. Upon entering the lodge, you'll find a huge lounge with an open beamed ceiling, stone fireplace (with an inviting fire, a delight on this cold night) and many comfortable chairs and sofas. All of this is first class.

The rooms are generous in size; even the standard room has two queen beds and a small table with two chairs. The decor is rustic, but otherwise the rooms offer nothing that you wouldn't expect at an average Best Western or La Quinta. And in some ways, less. The showerhead was too low and could not generate a regular spray. Although our room could sleep four, the coffee maker was stocked with only 1 pod of regular coffee (and it is a 5 minute walk down a snowy hill to get more pods at the lobby). Finally, our room had a mounting bracket, power outlet and antenna where the TV should have been. We didn't miss the TV, but the absence of a TV in the room should have been disclosed at check-in; at 3:30 PM, other rooms with functioning TV's were surely available.

But sitting in front of the fire in the lounge as snow fell outside more than made up for the average rooms. Stay here!
