“Don't book a cabin!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We arrived here after a long trip and hike in Sequoia national park.
We got checked in by a guy who seemed to be in a hurry and didn't have time for us.
At that moment we got told we even had to pay for the showers, but oh well.

When we got to the cabin, we noticed it was a little old wooden house, which seemed romantic from the outside.
Inside though, it was really dark, spiders and Mosquitos everywhere and the wood was cracked in each spot you looked. We were basically still standing outside. The door didn't close properly either.
The cabin smelled like old stuff, like someone died in there.

Outside we met some other guests and had a look in their cabin, which was actually painted and didn't have holes in the wall and a door that would close properly.

We weren't happy with this at all, especially for the price we paid, so we went back to the office.
We had a chat with the manager, who didn't seem to know what the cabins looked like from the inside, but managed to change us to another cabin.
The other cabin wasn't much different, so we decided to go back to the office.
The manager told us there was only one room in the lodge available for 250 dollars, which was more than double the price of the cabin! She couldn't do anything else for us.

In the end we got a refund and left.

Stayed in one of the 8 cabins for 1 night. Cabin looks a bit ran down from the outside but is clean and well maintained from the inside. It has a small porche and in the morning i daw deer running around. There is a restaurant onsite with decent food . Wifi doesnt reach the cabins.

My husband and I spent one night at the Lodge. It was a clean room simple but everything you needed was there. The buffet breakfast was quite good and there was fruit to take with you as you left. A pleasant experience.

You can walk to everything or grab a shuttle. If stairs are an issue, request a first floor room. Good location to base out of to see the area. The staff was excellent. Dinners were great, breakfast was diner level. If you are looking for more modern rooms, stay in the Wuksachi Lodge, if your looking for character, this is the place. We had one person that uses a walker, and found that the visitor centers at the Grant and Sherman trees lend out a wheelchair to make the distance to see the areas. This was our second stay in the park in three years and the service has been great and consistent.

Room Tip: Get first floor room if stairs are an issue.

We are in the first leg of our trip here in Kings canyon and staying the night at the John Muir Lodge. I reviewed prior to reservations and reserved a 2nd floor room, newly renovated and facing West and the woods, not the parking lot. Our room is nice and you can tell it's been redone. So far it is quiet in the building, but the walls may be a bit thinner than I would like. Overall I would stay here again if I was to return. Not sure why the poor reviews previously but our room is fine. There was a ranger talk down in the lobby and they had a fire in the fireplace. Nice lodge feel. Restaurant wasn't too bad but they seemed to be short a waitress but still not too bad considering that.

Room Tip: 2nd floor although no elevator but not high stairs. Face opposite the parking lot ie west towards th...

We had an amazing time, it is a beautiful area, and a well kept lodge. The staff was great, always willing to help out. The room was clean and well stocked towels and toiletries. I would have given a 5 but the breakfast buffet was awful.

Right in the middle of that area, it helps as base camp for many excursions. The lodge is well kept and ensures a convinient and comfortable stay. Useful and well positioned location to enjoy walking and visiting the sequoia forest and the broader sierra region. Walking in the wild requires guidance and attention, staying on the main trekking routes seems to be the best idea.
We were there during August and the temperature was perfect but it can get colder at night.

We truly enjoyed our stay.
