The lodge has lots of good things going for it. First a great sense of history. Second, a fabulous communal sitting room and free wifi area. The rooms are very retro (you could say dated) but that is part of their charm. It is almost like travelling back in time. Yes, we did hear the incredibly noisy plumbing from the room above but we brought our earplugs so put those in as soon as we went to bed. Tea and coffee making facilities are in the room. We got a great dinner and breakfast just 4 minutes' walk away. And we slept really well. The milky way and the stars at night were amazing from the verandah. For us the positives far outweighed any negatives. So long as you come not expecting 21st century modernism and wanting to be close to the great outdoors you will enjoy your stay. Drive to the lodge from the west is quite testing given the winding road. Gets cold at night even in August!
