The John Muir Lodge does exactly what it says. Clean, quiet and functional rooms with access to the restaurant/cafeteria and store at the Village and a lovely communal lounge with a welcoming fireplace. You will have come for the Sequoias and here you are surrounded by them as far as the eye can see - majestic, rising high into the sky - and the wonderful fresh air and magnificent night sky free of light pollution. Everything here was just what you could wish for; sure it is plain and rustic but the rooms are good and food is good and fresh, the service helpful and friendly and the scenery is truly amazing. And so quiet - guests are encouraged to keep noise to a minimum from 9pm to 8am so a good night's sleep is almost guaranteed - a good thing since the walls are paper-thin. A reasonable but easy walk (about 2 miles) to the General Grant Tree and the Fallen Mammoth but well worth the effort - you can drive there as well.
