“Pleasant 3 day stay, but can be very noisy!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Just completed an overall pleasant 3-day stay at John Muir Lodge. Stayed in an upstairs forest side room (#214) and had an enjoyable time. The rooms are more motel style with interior hallways. The room was comfortable but a little sparse and there was quite a bit of noise from children running down the hallways. Ear plugs are provided with the room but we didn't need them. The large lobby was nice with a wonderful fire kept burning day and night. Nice location after long days enjoying the amazing trees. We are repeat visitors at John Muir Lodge and will return again.

Room Tip: Close to Grant Grove.

“Enjoyed our winter stay immensely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

Lovely setting and easily reached with chains in winter by Rt 180 out of Fresno. Newish lodge building located a pleasant, if slippery in winter, quarter mile uphill walk from the restaurant and small visitor center. Room was clean but not large, and well heated. We asked for a second floor forest view instead of a parking lot view and we were pleased. Nice common room with fireplace and wifi, but wish the rooms had wifi. Restaurant food was much better than some reviews here would have it, and we enjoyed the fried chicken for dinner. Breakfasts were nice, too. Special mention for waitress Kiethie, who was personable and very nice and made sure we were well served and well informed about the area. Highlight was our walk around Grant Grove and the General Grant Tree. Fabulous stroll through crunchy snow in a wonderland setting.

Room Tip: Choose second floor for quietness (children like to run up and down the halls, especially downstairs...

“Sufficient lodging”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Recent stay at the Lodge was comfortable. Our room was clean, service was ok and the place in general appeared to be well kept. For the reasonable price I was completely satisfied. I would definitely consider staying here again. Restaurant was ok, nothing fancy and abit costly.

“get real people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

so there's no t.v. in the room; only internet in the great room; and horror or horrors.... a tiny registration desk! Come on people, you're in a National Park for Heavens sake. It's about the Park, the scenery. Our room was clean, quiet, and reasonably priced (try Wuksachi on the other side of the Park if you want upscale; but be prepared to pay twice the price for EVERYTHING). We stayed at Wuksachi before; let me tell you, John Muir Lodge is the place with value for your dollar. The restaurant had a good selection for all meals and the homemade soups were outstanding

Room Tip: rooms in rear have forest views

“Simple but heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for a couple of nights in December 2012 when the snow was deep and all around was white.
We loved the John Muir lodge. It's no frills and certainly not luxurious, but then it's a lodge amongst the vast national park of Sequoia...how much time do you want to spend in your room?! The patchwork covered beds were incredibly comfortable, the food hearty and the atmosphere in the lounge with the log fire burning was just so relaxing.
It's worth saying that before we headed here, we'd been staying at a 5 star hotel in San Francisco as a Christmas treat but actually enjoyed the authenticity of John Muir MUCH more!
The staff were all knowledgeable and friendly and the shop / market has everything you might need.
We'll be going back one year in the summer for sure.
