“Sufficient lodging”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Recent stay at the Lodge was comfortable. Our room was clean, service was ok and the place in general appeared to be well kept. For the reasonable price I was completely satisfied. I would definitely consider staying here again. Restaurant was ok, nothing fancy and abit costly.

“get real people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

so there's no t.v. in the room; only internet in the great room; and horror or horrors.... a tiny registration desk! Come on people, you're in a National Park for Heavens sake. It's about the Park, the scenery. Our room was clean, quiet, and reasonably priced (try Wuksachi on the other side of the Park if you want upscale; but be prepared to pay twice the price for EVERYTHING). We stayed at Wuksachi before; let me tell you, John Muir Lodge is the place with value for your dollar. The restaurant had a good selection for all meals and the homemade soups were outstanding

Room Tip: rooms in rear have forest views

“Simple but heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for a couple of nights in December 2012 when the snow was deep and all around was white.
We loved the John Muir lodge. It's no frills and certainly not luxurious, but then it's a lodge amongst the vast national park of Sequoia...how much time do you want to spend in your room?! The patchwork covered beds were incredibly comfortable, the food hearty and the atmosphere in the lounge with the log fire burning was just so relaxing.
It's worth saying that before we headed here, we'd been staying at a 5 star hotel in San Francisco as a Christmas treat but actually enjoyed the authenticity of John Muir MUCH more!
The staff were all knowledgeable and friendly and the shop / market has everything you might need.
We'll be going back one year in the summer for sure.

“Clean and cozy. Great staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

We stayed at the John Muir Lodge and found it very nice, esp. for the money. Clean and well maintained. Beautiful great room with fireplace, internet service only there, not in the rooms, no TV. This is a place for outdoor activities! Restaurant has not a huge selection (which I think is a good thing, because if they offer a million choices it means you're getting frozen/microwaved food.) The food they do offer is a good selection for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Super friendly staff!

“OK Place in Awesome King's Canyon”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

This is an OK hotel placed in a beautiful national park, which I guess explains why it is on the pricy side. The room was OK-just OK-neat and clean but no TV or WI-fi. When we first checked in I was washing my hands and heard a drip, drip, drip and there was a leak under the sink and the carpet under it was saturated. You could see the vacuum marks where the maid had just vacuumed over it but hadn't noticed or didn't care. Anyway, I called the front desk and they sent someone right up-and the guy replaced a broken connector. No one dried the carpet, so I just had to keep putting a couple of towels under the sink to soak up the moisture. By the fourth day, it was starting to stink, but we were checking out so it wasn't a huge issue. The porches at the end of the building are nice so bring your own wine and sit and enjoy the trees after a long day of hiking. The restaurant is pretty bare bones as far as food. Frozen hamburger patties, bottled salad dressings, etc. I would have preferred at least a good sandwich or a barbequed chicken breast-but you are a captive audience-so there probably isn't much incentive to improve the choices with fresh ingredients and innovative cooking. The park is absolutely gorgeous with dozens of great hikes and little crowding. We took a hike up to Little Baldy and it was one of the best views I have ever seen in my life! Amazing! The Sequoias are awesome! We were also lucky enough to see quite a few bears along the roads eating acorns in the trees. We even ran into one on the trail to Misty Falls-a little scary-but a great story to share.

Room Tip: We had a room right on the end next to the balcony-and that was nice and convenient.
