“HUGE trees and clean air make it worth the trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

When my five year old grand daughter saw the General Grant tree she stopped in her tracks. It was so funny and made me get all teary eyed too. Its still a pretty huge tree to adults but to a kid it is colossal. We had a great day walking through so many other parts of the park. Great to see these things through new eyes.

“Peaceful grove”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

This is a very nice small grove. It was super informative and had gorgrous trees. Some of the highlights included General Grant Tree and the tree you could walk through. It's hard to take it all in when you're there because it just doesn't seem real. Highly recommend that everyone experiences this beautiful grove.

“Good Place to stock-up and get visitors info”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

There is a general store , well stocked, tho' pricey. The resturant food is fabulas, but not cheap. The small museum has a gift shop and many interesting exhibits. There is a post office too. If you are camping at Sunset, Azalea or Crystal Springs, you can get a free map of the camp sites at the museum. Pay showers are here also. Parking lot tends to fill up faster in the afternoon.

“A nature enthusiast's dream.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

It's a nature enthusiast’s dream and is about a mile from the visitors centre. The 1/2-mile easy loop trail from the parking area leads to the most significant and iconic tree in the Grove - General Grant (also the nations Christmas Tree).

Of the two sequoia groves easily accessible (the other is Giants Forest) for us Grant Grove is the more stunning of the two. Perhaps because there are fewer visitors here, or the sequoias seem to be more numerous or the trail is less like a Disneyland line up. Each grove though has there own particular majesty - General Grant deserves a little more TLC as it has been burnt on the eastern side.

The visitor’s centre here is well run with good ranger programs, the viewpoints near the Grove are stunning and we also visited Big Stump Meadow with its sad history of logging these gentle giants (it's also the starting point for the gorgeous Kings Canyon Scenic Byway).

We stayed here at John Muir Lodge and it is in keeping with the surrounding forests in Grant Grove - these forests held such vital interest to the naturalist. Everyone will have a favouite but the groves themselves are an outstanding, cyclic history of nature at work. Loved it here!

Enjoy your visit!

“The Sequoias are amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

We walked the short General Grant Tree Trail. The Sequoias are just beautiful and it is hard to get your head around just how huge they are. Thank goodness for the National Parks.
