The beauty of this place is breath taking. If you are afraid of heights, be sure to take an anxiety pill before driving up. Otherwise, it is a nice change of pace. Definately plan on going back

We went to Hume Lake Campgrounds twice this year. The sites are good for an RV or tent camping. some are more shaded than others, and some even have views of the Lake. All are quite close to the lake, only a short walk to the water. The campground sites have no hook-ups, but they do have water available, and bathrooms with sinks and flush toilets. The lake has a wonderful walking trail all the way around.

During the summer, June thru August, the air is filled with noises from the children at the near by Christian camp, and young people on bikes on the trails, so we prefer to go in May or late August thru September.The flora is best during the Spring and is magnificent, but the wildlife abound in both Spring and Fall. No motor boating is allowed, which makes the water clean and swimmable all year

The Christian Camp is with in short walking distance, and has many amenities open to the public. There is a nice cafe with yummy food, and reasonable prices, you can eat inside or outside in the shade with a lake view. There is also a coffee place called "Hume n' Beans", cute and comfy. It boasts of canoes and row boats for rent, and even boats with electric trolling motors for fishing. There is a gas station (the only one up in the Sequoias), and a well stocked General Store, as well as a lovely Gift Shop, and even a Post Office. Also has a Lodge and cabins for rent. And a swimming pool for the Christian Camp guests. This privately owned camp has a web-site:

All in all, a great place to visit. The camping grounds are publicly owned, and you have to pay to get into the Sequoia area, but there is lots to see. If you are over 65, you can pay once for a lifetime senior pass, ask for it at the entrance station.

Came here after driving the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway and it's worth a detour for the stunning scenery or for water activities. On our visit it was overwhelmingly crowded with the Christian Summer Camp program. There wasn’t an inch of space along the foreshore beach but we managed to walk along it chatting to some of the ‘happy campers’.

The whole area was thronging with excited and well-behaved young adults and some were curious to know where our accent was from! It's plain to see though why Hume Lake is so attractive for all kinds of water sports. Water in the lake just seems to go on forever and it is midnight blue or emerald coloured depending on the light.

Next time we come it will be outside of the summer camp program (it was very friendly and atmospheric though). Lodging and facilities here would be more available and probably a little more serene. This is an artificial lake with a dam however; it still has a stunning location amongst the flourishing forests.

This lake provides safe swimming for children of all ages. The Christian Center is located on private property within the National Forest, but is open to the public. Hotel rooms are available here as is a dining hall and a snack bar. The latter provides mostly grilled items like hamburgers and to our delight a grilled chicken sandwich. Hand-dipped ice cream offered 8-10 choices. We particularly liked a Mocha Almond nut. Outdoor seating was comfortable in the shade, probably because of the elevation. With 2 National parks nearby, this might be a good place to stay, as the drive from nearby Visalia, requires 1.5-2 hrs on very windy roads with an elevation gain of over 4,000 feet. The Lamp Liter Inn in Visalia is highly recommended for those who need more city type services.
