“A marble cave!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013 via mobile

It was $15 to get into the cave and the tickets are NOT sold at the cave. You have to buy them at the visitors center on your way into the park. The money all goes back into the park for funding for conservation and upkeep. I think it is well worth it. This cave is a marble cave, which is different then most of them. You are also allowed to use flash photography in the cave, which most other caves don't let you. I recommend brining a jacket and flashlight (I used a headlight and it worked great) with you. Amazing sites, they also light up part of the cave features which makes picture taking much easier. They will turn out the lights in 1 section and it is amazing to experience pure blackness where you can't even see your hand if you hold it up to your face!

“Awesome to check out.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

It had been 20+ years since I had been in Crystal Cave, not much has changed inside! It's a beautiful cave, where you can see paths of polished marble and many interesting formations. My kids and hubby who had never been really thought it was a cool thing to see. The save is about 50 degrees year round, regardless of weather above ground. If you can't take the cool, take a light jacket. The walk inside the cave is about a 1/2 miles (inside is a pretty easy walk).

Know ahead of time: It is a half mile HIKE down to the cave entrance, which means coming up back is a half mile UP. If you are in good shape, it won't phase you, just wind you a bit. If you have physical issues, take your time and take water with you on warm days. If you have small children, go at their pace, or be preparped to help carry them.

You cannot take food into the cave or anything other than water. If you have food in your car, there are bear boxes there free of charge to store you food. YES there are active bears in the area and yes they go into the parking lot.

The road getting to and from the cave is very twisty and mostly not divided. It will take you about 30 mins to go 6 miles as you can really only do about 20-25 MPH on the road. We got treated to see a bear cross the road and 3 staggs (with full set of antlers, it was cool!).

BUY your tickets ahead of time at Lodgepole of the Sequoia visitor center. You do not buy tickets at the cave, if you do you may get turned away or have to wait for a while to be let down for a cave tour.

Lastly, follow the rules. Don't be the ones who think vandalizing the cave (we had a horrible group who broke about every single rule) because you WILL get the Park Rangers called on you.

“Fun for Kids, not a good value.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

This should have been extremely informative and interesting, but our poor guide was terrible. We had aLarge group and she just couldn't command interest in her group. She asked so many questions and waited for responses that the kids am adults alike were lost and I can't tell you too much about what we saw. Others though, have had great experiences with other rangers so it's luck! Wear good closed toe hiking shoes, it's a fairly long downhill trek to the cave and then the cave itself is wet and cool, about 50degrees so have a sweeter for you and kids, bring water, but no food. If you have any food in your car, you will have to lock it up in a bear bin in the parking lot. It was a beautiful cave and just the right amount of time for a tour.

We regret that you had a poor experience in Crystal Cave this very busy Labor Day weekend. Our naturalist guides take great pride in their ability to deliver family friendly learning tours. There are very, very rare instances when they miss the bar of excellence. We hope that this does not deter you from visiting us again.

“WOW a must see!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

You will be blown away by the beauty this cave has to offer. It is not as cold in there as they make it sound. It's just chilly. It's a great place to take pictures also. Very fun!!

“Really Unique Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

Getting to the cave is a bit of chore. The drive is a little sketchy. We were told it would take an hour to get to the caves from Lodgepole camground and we needed to 30 minutes early so we left an hour and half before the tour start time. It only took us a half hour to get to the tour so we ended up waiting around for an hour for the tour to start. The hike down to the cave is easy but hike back up will work up a sweat, we noticed some out of shape people really struggling. All of this aside the effort is worth it. The cave is beautiful on the inside.
