My husband and I took the daily cave tour of Crystal Cave last fall. Tickets were only available at the Foothills and Lodgepole Visitor Centers; we purchased ours the same day, and many of the times were sold out. They make the hike down and back from the cave seem like it is going to be a challenge, but it is not bad at all if you are fairly in shape. The cave itself was very interesting, the tour guide was informative, and overall it was a good experience that shows the vast diversity of Sequoia National Park.
FYI: When we went there was concern of white nosed syndrome (a bat virus-not transferable to humans) spreading between caves that had not yet been detected in Crystal Cave. You are not permitted to wear clothes that had been in another cave/mine since 2005, and if you had a camera that was, you had to wipe it down with Lysol. Based on the website it looks like this is still an issue.
