A trip to Kings Canyon Nat'l Park or its' neighbor Sequoia Nat'l Park is not complete without a trip to the river gorge along the byway. 6,000' high walls above and the Kings River at the base.
A must is a stop at the Kings Canyon Lodge near 10 mile Creek. A funky place with great ice cream and a working old time gas pump
Not many people make it into King's Canyon, as Sequoia gets way more attention.
Do yourself a favor and drive down in here! The scenery is amazing, and there are a few good camprounds and stunning trails waiting for you at the bottom!
We enjoyed this drive so much. Lots of camping and trailheads if you looking for that. We had a picnic lunch and had the area to ourselves. So many great places to pull over and see/photograph.
This is such a picture perfect drive in the fall. So much rock,the river on the side of the road,very few people and cars. We were there on the 27th and the road closes on the 29th. So worth the drive in the fall.
Wait until all the motorhomes and terrified flatlanders are gone and then you will actually enjoy the drive. Fall is the best time for the park overall. No lines, better service (the staff aren't driven crazy by whining tourists) and cooler weather.
