Not many people make it into King's Canyon, as Sequoia gets way more attention.
Do yourself a favor and drive down in here! The scenery is amazing, and there are a few good camprounds and stunning trails waiting for you at the bottom!
We enjoyed this drive so much. Lots of camping and trailheads if you looking for that. We had a picnic lunch and had the area to ourselves. So many great places to pull over and see/photograph.
This is such a picture perfect drive in the fall. So much rock,the river on the side of the road,very few people and cars. We were there on the 27th and the road closes on the 29th. So worth the drive in the fall.
Wait until all the motorhomes and terrified flatlanders are gone and then you will actually enjoy the drive. Fall is the best time for the park overall. No lines, better service (the staff aren't driven crazy by whining tourists) and cooler weather.
This drive is not easy...if you are scared of heights it is not for you. Also if you get carsick easily I highly recommend taking some Bonine before you take this on! Sooooo beautiful. It seems like another planet. It took us a few hours to drive to the end and back including time to pull over and take pictures.
