“Drive it in the fall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Wait until all the motorhomes and terrified flatlanders are gone and then you will actually enjoy the drive. Fall is the best time for the park overall. No lines, better service (the staff aren't driven crazy by whining tourists) and cooler weather.

“Absolutely breathtaking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

This drive is not easy...if you are scared of heights it is not for you. Also if you get carsick easily I highly recommend taking some Bonine before you take this on! Sooooo beautiful. It seems like another planet. It took us a few hours to drive to the end and back including time to pull over and take pictures.

“Worth the drive to the end”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

In Sequoia, you are looking up at the trees. Kings Canyon is more open, and if you're looking up it's at mountains. It's wonderful how the topography changes. The drive to the end is beautiful, with many stops along the way.

“Are you kidding me!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

A great view around every bend. We saw a bear on the side of the road. Also, saw a couple deer. If you have never been in the mountains west of the mississippi river you are missing out.

“Another Don't Miss!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

The drive from Grant Grove to Cedar Grove should NOT be missed, and do not cheat yourself-dedicate a day to this fabulous drive. It is every bit as wonderful at Tioga Road in Yosemite. Stop at MeGee Vista Point, Junction View, Yucca Point and then do not miss Boyden Cavern if you are not going to Crystal Cavern in Sequoia. At Boyden, it is not as spectacular, but you do not need a reservation. A trip to Crystal is at least a 4 hour investment. At Boyden, the guides are very enthusiastic and the tour lasts about 45 minutes. The walk up to the cavern is very steep but not that long. There is a nice picnic area and small market(chips, drinks, ice cream, coffee etc.) where you buy your tickets and it overlooks the river-very pretty.

Also stop at Grizzly and Roaring River Falls and then DO NOT PASS UP Zumwalt Meadow-we almost did, but ran into a couple who said that it was not to be missed and they were correct. Be sure to get a guide and drop in your $1.50-the information there makes the meadow come alive. Bee-utiful!!!

A note-I do not know what was going on in Cedar Grove-and if you think Grant Grove is small-Cedar Grove is non-existent. There were very few people about, nowhere to eat, and the roads are a mess. If you take this day long trip, be sure to pack a lunch. My husband resorted to a protein bar for the first time in his life!

On the way back to Grant Grove we detoured to Hume Lake. Wonderful spot were you can rent canoes from the Christian Camp. I wish we had had another day to spend here.

This is a great day trip-do not miss it!
