Lots of road work if you come in through the foot hills area, dirt road and 30 min wait. Fall is a great time to see the park. Cool and not too busy.

The road from the hwy 180 entrance up north all the way down to the Giant Forest area is very scenic and not too difficult to drive.

The road from Giant Forest area to hwy 198 entrance down south is very difficult drive and not scenic enough to make it worth the drive. Plus currently there are 20-60 min construction delays south of the Giant Forest.

Most of the scenic stuff in the Parks are in the Giant Forest area and north of it. Do yourself a favor and avoid the south section if possible.

We came in from the south on 198 and left on the northwest 180 route so feel like we really got to see the Generals Highway. The turns and twists and construction on the southern half were tedious, but the scenery wonderful. I would do it again in a minute.

Make sure your brakes and engine braking are working before tackling this one. There's lots of climbing and downhills as you cross watersheds. Not many viewpoints, but the ones that exist are good. Be sure to get gas on your way up to the parks--there is none in the parks and the mountains eat gas! We did not drive the southern half of Sequoia, but we understand that is a very challenging road they are trying to modernize, so be prepared for construction when the weather permits.
