“Lovely log cabin”

We stayed in a duplex bath cabin - two double beds and our own bathroom. We stayed with our friends who we were travelling with and the cabin was lovely. There were coffee and tea making facilities, a clean bathroom with a great shower and heating. Enough room for the 4 of us for 3 days and the Grove is right on all the roads for the rest of the park.
DO NOT use the restaurant here, travel the 40 minutes to Wuksachi Lodge.

Great setting and location however the cabins were a disappointment. Expected at least a clean bathroom.
hair all over the bathroom - shower missing a shower head. For $129 a night ! Rug was filthy. Rustic is appreciated in a NP but they NEED better housekeeping. Now that I have read through some of the reviews, I see that is a continuous problem. If management is reading this review- please train your housekeepers!
Restaurant could use a renovation - could be so charming but instead it is outdated. Staff was kind of grumpy.

Well, it does have location going for it.
When I stay in a cabin in a National Park, I do not have high expectations, but the cabin could have been cleaned better. The bedding was OK.

I share the earlier warning about the effectiveness of the heater . . . it was like sitting in front of a fire, one side warm the other cold.

We brought our cooler, so we were set for breakfast and there was a working coffee maker.

I was extremely troubled by the check-in requirements. The desk clerk insisted on making a credit card imprint and having me sign the slip with the amount blank and also photocopying my DL. This procedure was said to be a requirement of the lodging concessionaire and the park superintentent. I have written to both - no resolution yet.

We stayed in a cabin in Grant Grove (meadow camp, No. 521). I strongly warn anyone against staying there if it is not the height of summer. We stayed there in September, a HUGE mistake!

The $91 cabin said it had a heater. The "heater" was only capable of heating 5 inches of air on top of it, nothing else. It was equivalent to a toaster. The cabin was not insulated. We spent a shivering, sleepless night in 30-degree weather.

Other than the heater, the cabin was fine (ok, the puddle on the porch where the picnic table and walkway were and the mouse that got into our food inside was a little annoying, but bearable.)

I strongly suggest anyone who rents these cabins to bring a space heater or electric blanket or stay in the John Muir lodge nearby.

Just stayed at one of the rustic historic bath cabins. It was clean spacious but simple. The whole General Grant lodge complex needs significant renovation and updating of landscaping and planning. The only dining facility available to non-campers was the dining room at the registration/souvanir store. This dining room serves the cabins, the John Muir Lodge, and general area of the Grant Grove. Service was terrible and the whole place seem totally disorganized for table service facility. I would only stay in this area of the park for only one or two nights maximum.
Don't stay down at the Cedar Grove Lodge unless you are actually planning to do some day hiking activities; the hotel facility down there is very minimal.
