“Embarrassing that this is best option!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

Having stayed in multiple National Parks, we have a good feel for expectations - with few exceptions, luxury is not an option and families are and should be a target traveler with many people from around the world. Our National Parks never disappoint - however this property left me feeling embarrassed that world travelers experience this lack of quality when visiting such a beautiful park. That said, based on our visiting other options in this park, all left a lot to be desired. The first room we had was just dirty - carpet, bedspread with holes in it, dirty blanket. The manager was very nice in moving us - this room was nicer, however the bedspread had holes in the underneath as the other room did - clearly they are way past needing replacement. The restaurant is the best option in the park, but the food is mediocre and you should plan on waiting 1+ hours for your food. I ordered a 'boxed lunch' for taking on a picnic - leaving my order on my door well before the 9:00 time stated, and no one picked up my order so no picnic. When checking out, my bill was all screwed up with incorrect room rates. The best part of this 'lodge' is that it is inside the park.

Greetings 1wanaka, Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate that you are such an avid fan of National Parks and you took the time to visit ours as well stating that this park is beautiful which indeed it is. However we are sorry that you arrived to such dirty rooms. This is in no way how we want to represent ourselves or the park. Your feedback has been sent to the proper department heads to ensure this does not happen again. Once again, thank you for your feedback and we hope that we can have you once again as our guest.

If you pay this much for a hotel you should be able to eat. Reservations for dinner are essential if you want to eat at a normal hour. They should let you know this as soon as you reserve a room given that you are more than an hour away from any other dining options. When we arrived (with exhausted kids) we were told that we could not eat until 9:30 PM as we did not have reservations at the restuarant. To be fair, you can get take out and then walk back to the rooms but the food would be pretty cold this time of year.

Second bed of our "2 queen bed room" was a pullout sofa. No linens were provided. When we asked for them it took more than 40 min for housekeeping to arrive. Also mattress was so bad that my ten year old (who can sleep on anything) was up all night until he finally moved to the floor.

All that said location was beautiful and rooms were fine.

The lodge is beautiful, WiFi in the lodge, data port on your phone in the room. Our room was just a standard, but it was VERY nice, clean, pretty, good TV reception, if you want to see TV before bed. Staff very friendly and helpful. The lodge food is great! We felt it was a good value as well. I would come here just as a get-away.

Room Tip: The rooms are away from the road so all are quiet. We liked upstairs so we could sleep with the win...

We stayed for two nights. The room was big and ok all around but some tear and wear. Would benefit a makeover. The whole place is a bit dirty and old fashioned. I guess because this is the only place in here, the extra effort is not necessary. Would benefit more staff. The restaurant as a whole is just ok. If there were another lodge around here, this place would need to step up.

This is average on a forgiving day.

It's a fine property, and the staff is nice and cares, but this is just mediocre for the money, even after considering it is in the woods.

The place is understaffed. The all important gift shop/ canteen where you get water and food for you hikes and drives is not staffed. You have to wait in line at lodge check-in counter to buy your Gatorade, sandwich or trail mix as people check into the hotel. 25 minutes for Gatorade? Closest option is 25 miles away.

The meals were ok at best, but restaurant understaffed. Plan on long wait.

Rooms clean enough for the woods, but, the bed spread had not been clean in a while.

Okay enough if you want to stay in the park, but one night was enough. Again, I think the staff cared, but management cuts every corner they can.

Fodors was dead off on this one!

Loved Wuksachi Lodge in Sequoia National Forest. We rented the 2 room suite which was perfect and very affordable for our family of four. The room was comfortable and clean. The lodge staff was helpful, attentive, and pleasant. Would recommend for families!

When I say it's the only place to stay I mean "It's the ONLY place to stay"!!!! It's right in the middle of Sequoia and Kings Canyon and during the winter it's the only lodge open. Everything else is closed. The lodge was nice nothing outstanding except for the views. I wish they had those fake fireplaces to warm up the room but the heat was centralized. The room was clean, had a couch and desk. The lodge is separate from the main lodge so don't unpack! Bring your own food if visiting during the winter cause the lodge is the only place open and the restaurant can be very expensive when eating there every night. There's no microwave in the room. Overall it's a nice place to stay, the staff was nice and the food was ok. I'm definitely staying there again.
