“Breathtaking getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2014

After what felt like a long drive through snow and fog it was a huge reward to reach Wuksachi lodge. It is a very welcoming place. The great thing about visiting in winter is that there's few other visitors, which makes a visit feel all the more special. The hotel is in an incredibly quiet and beautiful location and matches its surroundings with subdued lighting and wooden structures. The restaurant is pretty classy in a quiet, cabin-in-the-woods sort of way with good food and great staff. The room was comfortable too, even if relatively simple for what you pay.

My wife and I finally got around to visiting the park this month, after four decades of living in California. We came into the park via Highways 41 and 198, which is a tortuous route with many switchbacks, but at the same time very scenic. Those wishing to take an easier direct route should travel on Highway 180 from Fresno. We like to stay in traditional lodges when available and the Wuksachi Lodge, although more modern than say the Ahwahnee in Yosemite, nonetheless has the same ambience of "parkitecture" as the older lodges. We stayed in the Stewart building in one of the "superior rooms", as they are termed, which have a separate alcove with a table and hide-a-bed opposite a flat screen TV on a dresser. The alcove has sliding barn style doors which allow it to be closed off, so that someone working on the computer with the free wifi or watching TV won't disturb a sleeper in the bedroom. These rooms are all in a corner locations and are quite quiet, particularly in the off-season. The room was large, well-maintained and clean and we had no complaints. It's particularly a bargain in the off-season at only $135 a night! The restaurant in the main lodge has a variety of dinner entrees and specials each night and neither my wife or I were disappointed with any of our selections. While at the lodge I had my newspaper delivered to the post office at nearby Lodgepole and in turn the mail carrier delivered it to the front desk. One paper was lost on our first day there, but a word about this to David Hauswirth, the manager, was sufficient to make amends by a significant reduction in the room rate (Thank you Mr. Hauswirth!). His attitude was typical of the excellent staff, who bend over backwards to please the guests. The Lodge is really the only hotel in the park and thus has a monopoly, but guests are nonetheless treated first rate. The hotel location is also the great advantage in a visit to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The Giant Forest, Moro Rock and the other sights at Sequoia are within easy driving distance. Likewise, the drive to Kings Canyon and the Grant Grove are within 40 minutes to the northwest of the hotel, with the entrance to Kings Canyon probably another 15-30 minutes further up 180. PLEASE NOTE: Other than the Grant Grove, the rest of Kings Canyon NP is closed until spring, even in the mild 2013-14 winter which California experienced, so plan accordingly. All-in-all, we had a great time at the Lodge and can't recommend it too highly.

Room Tip: We recommend the "superior room" (we had 111 in the Stewart Building, which is not only ba...

We arrived late at night and felt like we were in the middle of the forest. The Wuksachi lodge is the closest place to stay near the most popular Sequoia trees. The rooms are located in 3 different buildings, we stayed in Silliman building, room 211. A short walk to the reception building.
The king size bed in the room is comfortable; breakfast is ok, the view of the forest is fantastic.
I would say the lodge has the perfect location for a relaxing/exciting stay!

This is THE place to stay in Sequoia NP. It's close to all the main attractions (General Sherman) and hikes. The actual lodge itself is quite dated, but clean and comfortable. I would say it was a bit overpriced (we ended up paying $127/night in the winter, off-peak). However, we ended up getting a free room upgrade, and free dinner one night - which made up for the price!

Tips: Morro rock, bob cat point, and a good pair of hiking boots!

We had a prepaid reservation at this lodge and drove through extremely ice laden roads to arrive there. It was a beautiful setting but the snow was still coming down. We discussed our situation and fear of the weather with the reception desk. They even went on-line and pulled up the latest radar for us. With fear of not getting out the next day, we opted to leave our reservation and this beautiful setting. The desk clerk politely remind us that it was prepaid with a three day cancellation policy. We acknowledged and headed down the mountain. To our pleasant surprise, they credited us in full for our non-stay. I guess they could see the fear in our eyes. We will be back to stay . . . and multiple nights! Thank you!

Warm, spacious and clean with comfortable beds. Probably could do with updating soon. Very quiet so sleep was good and the stars were amazing. It was a short walk to the reception building which had a lounge, a sop, a bar and a restaurant. This was the only place to eat at this time of year without driving for miles but the food at dinner and breakfast was great. Walks and trails through the Sequoia forest was mind blowing and the view from Morro Rock well worth the 400 step climb.

Room Tip: It seems all rooms were the same it just depended what floor level you prefer.

ker999, we appreciate you taking the time to review Wuksachi Lodge and share your visit with us. The lodge will be receiving all new bedding and beds this year, that we are all looking forward too. Delaware North Companies is proud to be the concessionaire at such a beautiful place and we love hearing from our guests about their experiences here. Thank you for your visit and we look forward to seeing you again.
