“Stay inside Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Unforgettable experience. Stay inside this Park is amazing. Wuksachi Lodge offers really big rooms, nice service and good food. The only problem is to take bags from the parking lot to the room when the path is frozen, this was the only bad experience in this trip.

I was really was looking forward to staying here. The location in the middle of Sequoia was terrific and gorgeous. We loved seeing the wildlife right outside our building and the views were wonderful, but, the hotel could use some updates. The rooms were mediocre with a "deluxe" simply being a regular room with a popped out wall for a rollaway. The rooms needed some updating...I was thinking rustic, but these rooms were ordinary. The food at the restaurant was good, especially the breakfast, but very pricey. Unfortunately, they do not accommodate early hikers or others. There was no way to get a very early breakfast or even make one with a microwave. I also totally agree with an earlier reviewer regarding more outside seating. A wraparound deck at the lodge would be wonderful to sit and look at The views and enjoy cocktails or snacks. They definitely under-utilize the property. It has so much potential, but, seems to need a makeover of sorts especially for the price.

I really liked this hotel however, there are several improvements needed to make it more comfortable and accommondating for the traveler; especially with the cost of the hotel. The good thing was the location within the park made it easy to get to the various sites at Sequoia and Kings Canyon. However, the improvements needed include: there needs to outdoor seating near each cabin section. We stayed at Stewart and we would have loved to been able to sit outside in the evening and enjoy the sunset and visit with other guests. Secondly, there should be more seating near the lodge/resturant area. Every night we tried to go and sit outside there, however we could never get a seat. The lodge needs to extend the porch around to the side or other areas so that at least 30 guests can sit outside. It was far too hot to sit inside when we visited in July. Also, there should be free coffee provided in the lodge or in each cabin reception area. I don't really like the idea of coffee pots in the rooms and I really, really hate the idea that the coffee cups are just wiped out and not replaced! Please stop this practice as it is disguisting. I much more prefer that a large coffee station be maintained in the lobby of each cabin /lodge and let us drink have a good quality coffee experience! Lastly, there needs to be another type of food options here. Like a deli or small resturant that maintains good quality food for a lower cost.

Sequoia National Park is a must see if you are travelling in Southwest USA – and staying inside the park at the Wuksachi Lodge is highly recommended. Do not pay attention to the more negative reviews of the lodge on this page, most of the critical remarks focus on things that have little or no importance compared to being inside the park. The lodge is a very good hotel with a good restaurant. The rooms may not be luxurious but they come with a nice bathroom and a very good bed and are equipped also with a large refrigerator.
Air conditioning is not relevant as the air is always cool in the evening and at night, even during high summer. A hotel outside the park may be less expensive – but you will lose too much time on transport, easily an hour each way, so choosing the Wuksachi Lodge is much better. Accept no compromises. The hotel is located only 15 minutes by car from the largest cove of giant sequoias, the Giant Forest, which has also the biggest tree of them all, the General Sherman.
Plan to spend at least a day or two hiking the Giant Forest trails. The Big Trees Trail near the museum and the Crescent Meadows Trails are both quite easy and very recommendable. We saw two bears less than 50ft away on the Big Trees Trail one late afternoon. And this is not unusual. You are unlucky if you do not see a bear.
The giant sequoias themselves are very impressive, you will never get tired of admiring these beautiful, orange colored and very elegant – more than a thousand years old – gigantic living organisms.
Sequoia Sightseeing Tours offers a half day tour from the Wuksachi Lodge. It is not cheap, but very recommendable. The tour takes you around to many of the major sights in the Giant Forest area and includes also time to climb to the top of Moro Rock.
A general store is available at the Lodgepole Vistors Center just around the corner from the hotel, less than a 10 minutes drive away. Or: You can hike through the woods from the hotel to the store in about an hour – and take the free shuttle bus on your way back.
If you want to see the Sequoia National Park, the Wuksachi Lodge located inside the park is highly recommended.

I liked this lodge and I think it would be an excellent anchor spot for exploring Sequoia. The rooms were clean and comfortable but nothing fancy. The food in the main restaurant was good and the service excellent.

I was really looking forward to staying at Wuksachi but was quite disappointed. From looking at the hotel online, I thought it looked quite romantic but in reality the rooms were a little tired and in need of an update. The restaurant was quite nice, there was a fairly small menu to pick from and the food was good, although on the first night they didn't have any of the items we wanted to order. On a couple of nights the restaurant was understaffed and we were told to 'go easy' on the staff. I found this a little odd, as I would expect a hotel in peak season to be better prepared.

The hotel didn't really have any practical facilities. There was no supermarket and packed lunches and breakfast in the restaurant were very expensive. I would advise to take some food with you as we had a large fridge in our room.

Although the hotel itself was a little disappointing in quality, it wasn't dirty and there were no big problems with it. Unfortunately, we had a few problems with staff and I find that it is things like this that can become quite frustrating on holiday. Check in was troublesome, check-out was even worse (they almost charged $14million to our card). We turned up to dinner 7 minutes early but weren't allowed to enter the restaurant. The waiter was then rude to us. Little things like this built up and left us feeling really annoyed. I believe that the staff were not very well trained in terms of operations and customer care.

I have just spent two nights my family at this property and was really disappointed with the condition of the rooms, level of service and quality of food given the official rating of the property and the prices they charge. Checkin was super inefficient with us having to wait until 4.15pm for our rooms to be ready, housekeeping seems to need until late afternoon to clean all rooms, the rooms themselves are dated and super hot in summer, as they either dont have AC or its not working properly like ours and the breakfast buffet is very simple/poor. So apart from the benefit to be right inside the national park there is not much difference to the cheaper and lower rated B&Bs outside the park.... Not sure its worth almost USD 300 per night...
