“Astonishing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2012

My husband and I drove down the 9-mile road to Bear Lake. The road is under massive construction, so there were stretches of gravel and flagmen; however, we were never stopped. The temperature in the parking lot was 55 degrees, so we pulled on hats and gloves and polarfleece jackets. From the sidewalk to Bear Lake was only 200 feet, but it was completely snow-covered, and icy because of the very warm weather for the previous week. There was no path or trail, but the lake was visible from the sidewalk.
From there to the lake, the temperature must have dropped 20 degrees, and the winds around the ice-covered lake must have approached 50 miles per hour! The lake had a bluish appearance, and was absolutely beautiful! But because of the extreme winds, it was impossible to stay there very long. Well worth a trip!

“Breathtaking Nature”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

Hike the trails, enjoy nature, see amazing wildlife and smell the fresh air. Great photo ops, specially during the Autumn when the apsens are changing. Almost always see elk and deer and amazing birds.

Had a great time. The lake was frozen over, and still snow on the ground. Was great to go this time of year...no crowds

“frozen lake is still beautiful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2012

Bear Lake was a much easier trail compared to the trails to Dream Lake, which was no easy feat in such high altitudes, going uphill for a mile on a foot of snow. The Bear Lake trail was still very snow covered, which was a challenge but easy to tackle. Despite a very warm season and a winter with temperatures 20 degrees above normal the lake was still frozen. While we didn't get to experience the beautiful reflection, it was still a nice trip.
