“Good base camp”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago

This is not your typical RV park. It is basically a big gravel parking lot with RV spot along both sides. One side is for 26' and under and in the sun most of the day. The other side is for larger rigs and in the shade most of the day. It just has electricity and water hook ups, no sewer but there is a dump station up the road in the park. This is a concessionaire park. However it is pretty quite and within walking distance to the hotel area that has hot springs to soak in,gift shop and a resturaunt.

What's great about this campground is that you are miles away from civilization but close enough to a hot spring resort. There are plenty of trails around for a day hike or an over night backpacking trip. Sol Duc waterfall is also nearby. The campground itself is clean with washing facilities. The sites aren't as secluded as one would like. Great times!

16 "reach out and touch" your neighbors' campers parking spots; 8 each side of the gravel lot. No sewer hookup; electric and water only. Stayed 3 nights. Glimpsed camp "host" once - leaving - no host was in attendance during our stay. Tents set up despite the No Tents sign was the least bothersome. Worst: two Aramark resort employees live in a plywood-over-some windows, dilapidated motor home in one of the sites; routinely left their two dogs unattended for hours on end; the dogs barked and howled constantly, until 2 am the 3 nights we were there. First night we were next door, even though we had asked at the lodge desk to move and were told that was impossible as all spaces were reserved and only appeared open due to "late arrivals". The next morning, with 4 open spaces remaining at the farthest opposite end from the noise, we insisted and were very specific about the reason we needed to move. Our next 2 nights were far enough away from the dogs' ruckus that we slept, but we heard plenty from the immediate neighbors, each would stay a night adjacent and end up leaving or moving.
Trash and recycling was filling up when we arrived on Wed., overflowing by Friday (this with warnings about not attracting wildlife, especially bears, posted on each picnic table); management at desk said, well, someone will come by tomorrow (Saturday). Family left their fire ring, picnic table, and the ground in between strewn with food, food wrapping, cans, and bottles and two days later, it was still there, minus what the wildlife had picked apart, when we left. No evidence of any attention from management nor absentee host.

Very nice campground, very quiet, beautiful trees and very nice hiking, but it would be nice to have a shower. The shower at the hot springs is a community shower.
The hot springs smell like rotten eggs, but it was great soaking in the hot pools and then get into the cold pool for swimming. The kids loved it.
The only bad thing was the mosquitos this year. They ate us alive. We had spray, but they were hovering in masses over us all the time. The lady next to us spend most of her time in her car. In fact, we left after 2 days and camped by the ocean to get away from the blood suckers.

Just to take note - there are no reservations at this camground. If you want to get a site, arrive early in the day before 2pm or else on busy weekends the campground will be full. We arrived by noon and were able to get the last 2 sites next to each other. We had a family group of 16 people including 4 children under the age of 10yrs old. Loop A has some sites right next to the river and they are very nice. If you get the middle of the loop then the kids will have plenty of forest to explore in without getting in trouble and we didn't worry at all about them wandering too far away because we were always in view of them. They had a blast. The campground was very clean and it does have a bathroom with 2 stalls and a sink. No showers. There is showers over at the Hot Springs though - although not very clean.
Overall, we had a pleasant experience. It is a beautiful place with gorgeous scenery. Hike up to the falls and you'll have a nice hike of 4miles and a nice view once you get there.
There is bear warnings in the campground so just keep your food shut in your vehicle and pick up after yourselves after each meal and you'll be fine.

The only thing I'll complain about is the camp host - he was not very friendly when we first got there telling us over and over we cannot reserve sites when clearly with 6 of us there already we were not reserving sites but merely setting up our tents first before registering so no one else would take those sites. After we registered and payed we didn't hear anything else from him even though we were 3 sites from him and making lots of noise till 2am!

oh, and this campground does not charge for extra vehicles!

We have camped at this campground many times. Always we have slept in the van and gone to the hot pools and gone hiking during the day and to the one restaurant in the evening. If you are addicted to quiet, it is probably one of the quietest places left on earth as it is at the end of a long, well paved 13 mile road. Some people find it serene while others find it claustrophobic. We find it serene. As to the cabins, they are small but seem adequate. Do not expect perfect weather though as it often rains.
