Really expensive cabins with no kitchens, $135 a night plus taxes! Then you had to buy food from the expensive food service vendor. The cabins with a kitchen go for $165 a night! It is one those cases where they got you and they are going to over charge you as much as they can. You can camp at the National Park campground for $12. Another beef is the pools did not open until 9am but the staff was using them at 7:30 am when I walked by, what's up that? How much does it cost to hire a life guard for an extra hour or two? I got the cheapskate vibe from this place.

My family and I had a lovely time at the resort. We rented a cabin with kitchen. The location is amazing, surrounded by woods and beautiful. The area is quiet and people are friendly. There are hiking trails that start right at the resort, and you can go down to the Sol Duc river and walk along it. There is a small store on the property selling basic supplies and some clothing, but you should go to a supermarket first and bring food with you if you intend to prepare meals. We only visited the on-site restaurant once - it was OK but basic. The hot springs pools are wonderful. They are natural hot springs and smell of sulfur, but you quickly get used to it. There is also a large conventional swimming pool, also surrounded by beautiful woods. You should not expect luxury here- the location is what is special.

We just spend 3 nights at this location. The hot springs are unique and the location is beautiful. But keep your expectations very low.
If you want to sleep in a bed at the Sol Duc Hot Springs, you have to stay at this resort. So you have to pay through the nose for a very simple, very basic room. That's fair. But IMO, for $185 a night, you should not find hair and caked food (chocolate?) on the sheets when you check in. And I think everyone would agree that when the sheets are changed as a result of your complaint, the new sheets shouldn't have different caked food (egg yolk?) on them. If the desk is open, they will order a change, so inspect quickly and speak up firmly.
The stove was not filthy but it wasn't clean. And were we supposed to pack our own potholders? Didn't realize.
As for the hot springs - people are directed by signs to shower and wash with soap in the attached facilities before entering. But there is no enforcement. Many folks just waltz right in to the pools dry - and are they dry! There are signs that say that the stuff floating in the pools isn't skin, it's some sort of algae. Oddly, it is much more prevalent at the end of the day - by which time the water color has also changed. Ew.
Maybe people would be more likely to shower if there were adequate shower facilities. Of the 6 shower heads in the women's locker room, only 3 offer hot/warm water. Since campers use this shower to clean off, the competition for shower space can get pretty intense, particularly when several families are trying to bathe at the same time that people are trying to shower to simply enter or exit the pool.
So be warned - these problems are so obvious that it is clear that the resort's philosophy is "take it or leave it."

Sorry this is so long but want to provide feedback with relevant information supporting my comments.

We stayed 2 nights mid July '06. The property is nice and in a beautiful location in the park but, IMO, does not deserve the $150/night we paid.

Our cabin was fair size, but the toilet ran incessantly unless you shook the heck out of the handle. The room itself just felt dirty; dust covering much of the furniture, musty smell, carpet was stained and had the appearnce of not being vacuumed recently. The screens on the windows were coming apart, many gaps larger enough to put my hand in (so opening would have given opportunity for who knows what to fly or crawl in). As for the bathroom; the mirror definetly looked like it had not been cleaned in a few days or more (water spots, zit juice, etc), the floor was dirty and the door knob had toothpaste on it. And the room keys provided were without key ring or otherwise; provided us two loose keys. {wonder how many they loose because of that}

Now, the hot springs and pools were average I would say. The waters itself were nice. But the appearance of this swimming/soaking area definetly needs some maintenance. Fresh pain wouldnt hurt either. I noticed in many spots the soaking tubs were chipped, cracked and/or peeling on the walls, cracking concrete surrounds, benches were beginning to chip and peel, etc. Also peoples kids just running completely amok. Now I know this is not the responsibility of the establishment, but they can say something to the kids and/or the parents to better control them, or leave. Kids jumping in and out of the various pools (within inches of other bathers at times), splashing widly practically in the faces of other guests [my girlfrieind and I included], etc. Not the most relaxing or enjoyable experience.

Lastly, the restaraunt. We stopped in our first night for dinner just after opening. We were the first ones in and the wait staff was slow to get to our table; about 10 minutes just to get us water and appetizer. Once we finally ordered it took another 20 minutes to get our food. The food itslef was not that great, and for the higher prices it's a little unreasonable. The biggest thing to further increase doubts about the cleanliness of this facility is what we noticed next. While eating our meal the hostess was making her way from table to table with a damp paper towel. She was using it wipe off silverware that looked dirty and replacing said silverware back on the table. At this point we had nearly finished our meal but after that we WERE done eating as it just takes the appetite away seeing something like that.

Would not recommend staying here unless you want to have no phone, no tv, little to no cleanliness and uncontrolled children in the pool/tub area. But if these dont bother you then you'll enjoy it.

“Resort?!”

Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort

Jul 23, 2006
20/21 found this review helpful

we stayed three nights in Sol Duc "resort"7/13-16/06. "Camp" would be a better word. We paid $150 per night for a cabin with electrical outlets that didn't work, and a dirty bathroom (upon check-in). (There was dried urine on the toilet, and hair in the sink.) The food was passable, but the service was very slow. The Hot Springs were just big heated swimming pools, and didn't seem very clean.

On the positive side, the college kids working at the camp seemed to enjoy their jobs, and the hiking trails to Sol Duc Falls were great!

Really, to term this place as a "resort" , and charge resort prices is basically false advertising. Sol Duc needs a serious facelift.
