“Can't beat the location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2014

The hotel is only steps away from the Visitor's Center (where the tours start) and the Heritage Walking Trail. The rooms are smallish, 1960's vintage, but neat and well-kept; the bathroom is very small so plan accordingly, good mattresses. The staff was very nice and went out of their way to make sure we had a good stay. Get reservations well in advance and plan your trip around that, we tried to stay and extra day, but there wasn't a room available. Even so, the park did not seem crowded. We paid about $95 per night and had a room with a view of the park (the other side had a view of the parking lot). I recommend

Room Tip: reserve early, ask for a park view room

This hotel is quite old. Accommodations were very basic. Our room was actually musty. This place needs a major update. Can't beat the location. Can walk to everything at the park! Overlooked the walkways/trails.

Thank you for you comments. We appreciate all that we receive. We are happy that you enjoyed your visit. We are trying are best to make the accommodations, our food service, and our gifts shops top notch. Of course, being in a National Park, we are limited to meet the federal guidelines. I really appreciate your statement "If you are a nature lover, rather than a luxury-seeker, you will find this hotel meets your needs just fine."

The hotel itself was fairly modest, but we knew that going in and lowered our expectations. Honestly, it was quite adequate for our purposes (mom and two tween-aged kids). The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet. There was a small fridge in the room. We had a balcony which looked out over a natural area, and which was very pleasant. We loved that we were only a minute from the visitors' center, and right in the midst of all of that nature. No wi-fi in the hotel, which would have been nice, but there was wi-fi in the visitors' center. I don't see why they couldn't expand it to include the hotel if they're going to have it in the park at all. The dining rooms were adequate, although the food was nothing to write home about (except the bacon cheeseburger -- now that was good!). The service was a tiny bit slow when they were busy, but the wait staff were extremely friendly and we enjoyed the southern hospitality.

If you are a nature lover, rather than a luxury-seeker, you will find this hotel meets your needs just fine.

Room Tip: We requested an upper floor on the side facing the woods and they gave us that room. It's the...

Hotel was alright, the rooms were clean but outdated. If staying more then a day, pack food with you because the hotel restaurant is very bland with few choices. Also with the restaurant, they are very understaffed so it takes forever to get served. Closest restaurant to eat besides the hotel one is over a half hour away down the mountain. They do have a beautiful walking path that is paved with an overlook that is right outside the hotel door. Also the visitors center for the cave is right next door as well.

Room Tip: Request room that has a wooded view, the other side is a parking lot.

We spent two nights last weekend at Mammoth Cave National Park with our two college age kids. Mammoth Cave Hotel was just the right place to enhance our experience being next to the historic entrance. We enjoyed the quietness. We stayed in a sunset room which had two queen beds and a bathroom. The room had a smell of old but the bathroom had been upgraded. Shower was clean, water was warm and a heat light. We had dinner at the restaurant. Good food, biscuits were delicious. Next day breakfast was good too. We went for a hike. The trails are right there. We saw a lot of wildlife including a barn owl. I would highly recommend staying at the Mammoth Cave Hotel.

The sky terrace rooms a motel circa 1960. Just opened after the winter the room was musty...in fact mold was clearly present in the bathroom. The dining room...the only meal in the area...was not even average. Even with minimum crowds the waitstaff, one waitress, was overwhelmed. The food was consistently overcook..in fact tortured. Thank heavens mother nature continues to amaze saving the day.

My husband and I stayed here at the end of March. We stayed for two nights during a trip to visit the Jim Beam distillery, Corvette Museum and plant. We also spent some time in the park. The room was clean and comfortable. The only problem that we had was that it was raining and we left the sliding door open so that we could listen to the rain and the birds, and somewhere near us as a downspout that was running out onto some sort of piece of metal, so we heard drum like noises instead of nature. There was a bit of a problem with consistent water temperature in the shower.
The restaurant was good, enjoyed the trails and the cave tour that we took. We will definitely be going back and we want to stay in a cabin the next time.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the trails have a wonderful view.
