“Fairly easy trek to some amazing petroglyphs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

It's only about 0.6 miles to the petroglyphs. There is very little vegetations so you are totally exposed to both the sun and the sun beating off the rocks. The trail is up and down over relatively smooth lava. You definitely won't get a wheelchair up the trail. The path is reasonably well marked and once you get to the petroglyphs, they are beautifully preserved. Don't follow the suggestions of the other reviews that say get off the trail and look at the others. The point is to preserve them, not trek all over them. Keep your eyes open on the path out, as there are plenty to see there also.

“Very rocky trek”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

This is a great place, once you get there, but getting there is difficult, esp. if you are handicapped in any way. It's a long hike in, be sure to take water. But once you get there, it's worth the struggle. You will not see anything like these petroglyphs anywhere.

“This is a must if you are going to the park.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

Make sure you bring with you a guide that explains what the petroglyphs represent. The area with the pathway is not the only where there are petroglyphs ... walk away from the walk way and you will see a lot more.

“Not worth it in the heat”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

If you can make it here before the afternoon heat hits, then do it. We did the 15-20 min walk (each way) in the blazing heat, with umbrellas, and found it exhausting. I think I would have appreciated the history and sacredness more if I wasn't feeling the heat exhaustion! Not recommended for anyone with mobility issues, or little kids.
