“In the middle of a Volcano”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Never in my life have I seen a tube, you can actually walk thru made of volcanic rock. it was a steep staircase walk down but sooo worth it!! No sandals here to much gunk, mud & water run off from the walls.

Also drive thru the whole park... we found some great views off the side roads.

“A Very Worthwhile Stop in Volcano National Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

How often do you get to stand inside a lava tube? You can make this a quick stop in Volcano National Park, but it really is a must see. It is amazing to think that nature created this tunnel through the earth, and really gives one a better idea of what a lava tube is. For the short amount of time this can take, I strongly recommend checking this out. There is no extra fee other than what it cost you to get into Volcano National Park.

“Neat”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Neat lava tube, but lots of tour buses, and there is a steep descent/ascent along a concrete pathway to the actual lava tube. Try to wear closed toe shoes, since the lava tube has dripping water from the top and there are large puddles that collect along the floor.
In an effort to avoid a large puddle, I ducked my head and walked along the side, and accidentally scraped my back against a jagged sharp piece of lava along the side, which left a nasty painful scratch that was bleeding, even through my t-shirt. ouch !!
There was one guy walking through wearing flip-flops and shorts only, and I would not recommend doing that because if you slip and fall, you can seriously hurt yourself along the sharp lava rock.

You walk in one side of the lavatube, and then walk out the other side, in a counter clockwise direction. This is a one time attraction......oce you do it one time, you aren't really excited to do it again.

“Quick stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013 via mobile

This was a quick and interesting stop. It was much less than I expected though. It is pretty much a short cave. It was worth the stop with our two younger kids.

“Easy, fast and worth a stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

The extended, dark area of the tube was locked wen we stopped (Dec 2012). The hike down was in a wet forest of tree ferns, lovely if you slow down to really look at what you are walking past. Pretty flowers hiding down here among the greens!

The tube itself was level and lit, interesting. We were lucky to come between busloads, so we had the tube to ourselves. The trail loops around back to the start, it was a nice hour distraction for us, as we explored the woods and plants a bit on the way back.
