We did the Haleakala tour. None in my party had ever ziplined before but we had heard about it and were very excited. We met at the little office on the way up to the volcano and got our helmets and harnesses on with the help of our 2 guides. We got a quick safety lesson and then we hiked to the ziplines for about 5 minutes. The ziplines progress from short to long, so it was a great introductory experience. Along each zipline, the guides explained about birds and plant life that were indigenious to Hawaii. In addition to the 5 ziplines, there is also a suspension bridge that you walk over and was actually more enjoyable than I expected. The last zipline is pretty high up and long and they let you just ride on it back and forth for a little bit until they get you down with a ladder. It was nice because you really got to look down and around at everything. We then got in van and drove a short distance back up to the office.
The guides we had were entertaining, good-humored, and made you feel comfortable. It was a fun time! My only qualm would be that it can be a little tricky at first on learning to steer so sometimes you started thinking more about steering yourself in straight than taking the thrill all in.
