“Maswick Logde Grand Canyon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

This accommodation was in such a great location. Wonderful to stay inside the park. The accommodation was basic but clean and warm. We stayed in December with snow on the ground outside. Quite expensive for what it is but I think you pay for the location which made it worth it. Loved Grand Canyon. This time of year it wasn't too busy and it was breathtakingly beautiful with snow around.

The last time I visited was over 18 yrs ago and nice to see a ? private company running it this time .Service was good, booking process easy and rooms clean.
Food was average and perhaps over priced .Poor sign posting in area with less than adequate lighting in car park areas
Rooms well priced if booked early.

We were pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and well equipped the rooms were in this motel style property. We were a little concerned that it might be "too rustic" but the interior of the rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms seemed to have been updated. There was a mini fridge and a safe which were both helpful. The rooms can't be described as fancy but are spacious enough and clean. The setting is just exactly what you want at the Grand Canyon. It is in a wooded area just a short walk from the rim. The staff in the central building were very helpful with organizing our sightseeing plans as this was our first trip to the canyon. The cafeteria is handy for a quick breakfast or lunch but the food is nothing special and somewhat overpriced. The nice thing about the cafeteria though is you can pick up a piece of fruit or some kashi cereal so you don't have to be having a big meal. It's very convenient. I would stay here again and I would definitely visit the canyon again as it is a mind blowing experience and it's hard to take it all in with just two days. Make sure you go to the Hopi House and go up to the second floor where you will experience native art that you will never forget.

Room Tip: The building are two story and there are no elevators so if you don't like hauling your bags up...

Ten minutes' walk takes you to the rim of the Grand Canyon. So nothing wrong with the location of this hotel, but not much else to recommend it. Our room was rather dingy and depressing, the corridor outside did not get swept properly during our three day stay, and the tour service desk oftern appeared overwhelmed. The catering was a very basic cafeteria. True, there are other restaurants within walking distance, but these are not great either. When we stayed it was very hot, and we tried to get walking by about 0600. Unfortunately, breakfast did not start until 0700, and you could not even get to the free water tap before then.

Stayed here two nights in late November. I am glad that I have chosen Maswik Lodge and not others in Grand Canyon as it is centrally located. It is within walking to the rim, a cafe in the premise, shuttle bus stop is just nearby and very importantly, it is very quiet. It is really worth every cent that you paid for. Will stay here again.

Can't add much to the recent reviews except that visiting in November and December can be lovely. My husband and I made 3 previous visits here staying other places and this was by far the nicest for the price! The food at the lodge is decent but the staff are very kind. The pizza cafe was cheap and had lots of different beers. We found that coming in the late fall means that more of the roads are open to the public. Also the general store is not crowded and you can store cold food in the room's refrigerator or heat up food in the microwave at the cafe in the store (if you plan to eat it right away.) Many previous comments on TA have suggested staying outside of the park. I think these people are wrong because of the ease of staying where you can walk to so many things (like El Tovar and Bright Angel Lodge for meals) can't be beat.
