“Grand Canyon Weekend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

Bought a package deal from the Grand Canyon Railroad (The Train) which included a one night stay at this Lodge. The room was good, but a little farther than we would like from the RIM of the Grand Canyon. Food was good in the Cafeteria and the Pizza Pub. Needed to have some shuttles that can take people to their buildings, since they are not located in the same building as Check in. Map provided was not accurate with the directions provided by the Desk Clerk. Walked the wrong direction, need direction arrows coming out of the lobby to direct folks to their buildings. We even got to see one mule deer and two elk eating grass right in front of the room

Room Tip: Only tip to travelers is get good directions from Lobby clerk to your building. Be prepared for a n...

I spent one night in Maswick Lodge while visiting the Grand Canyon National Park. The room had 2 double beds, a tv and small table and chairs, bathroom with toilet and shower and a small vanity area outside the bathroom.

The room is clean but perhaps a little shabby and run down, but I was not there to for the hotel and did not spend that much time in it. It was simply a bed for the night!

The area around the lodges is not well lit, again, not an issue for me as too much lighting would spoil the environment of the park and if you do your research before you travel to the park you should know to bring flashlights! I used the one built into my phone and this was adequate.

The lodge is about a 5 minute walk to the rim and there is a village route shuttle stop outside it. I didn't use the cafeteria but did eat in Bright Angel cafe and the food was reasonable with fast seating and service despite being very busy.

Plenty of parking availble near the lodges.

The rooms have no air-conditioning but there were two fans in the room which had been switched on before we arrived. They were noisy but kept the room cool enough to have a decent nights sleep. When they were switched off I felt like I was suffocating!

This was the only room available in the park when I booked and I would recommend it to people as you will not be in the room that often! Going to a place like the Grand Canyon I was not bothered about the fancy trimmings of a hotel and felt it was good value for money ($99 for 1 night).

And the Grand Canyon is amazing!!

The rooms were spacious but could have been much cleaner. The carpet felt itchy to walk on and there were stains on the bed linen. The mattresses almost killed my back. Also, the area near the cottages could be better lit since we almost lost our way in the night.
Am I sounding too whiny??Now some positives, its located in the center of the park so very convenient and there is a self service food court which is the highlight of the lodge. There is a variety to choose from at reasonable prices.
I would opt for the other lodges if I had to revisit the canyon.

Maswik was the only place with rooms at a low price when I did my reservation. Only 3 blocks from the rim. Stayed in a cabin with 2 double beds. A single queen bed would have been my preference but was not available. Room was clean, quiet, had a refrigerator and we were able to park almost next to our door. Close to the Maswik cafeteria and shuttle bus stop. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: The cabins do not have A/C, but you probably won't need it in September. It was quite comfortab...

In the middle of a quick weekend to Vegas I decided to rent a car and head for the Grand Canyon. I was able to secure a room at the Maswik....pricey at almost 200.00 but as they say LOCATION LOCATION...located right inside the park itself, it couldn't have been better. Definitely motel style from the 50s, but very clean and a nice little patio outside. It was pouring rain all the way up there and when I got there, but it cleared enough in the morning to see a spectacular sunrise over the canyon. I ate at the Bright Angel cafe and had a tasty meal, surrounded by people from all over the world. If you get a chance to get a room inside the park, go for it. Everything else is miles and miles away no matter what the ads say. Don't look for plush, it is clean and comfy and everybody I met who worked in the park was absolutely wonderful.

Room Tip: If going in the summer choose Maswik North as it is air conditioned- most rooms elsewhere are not.

I was happy to be able to stay at the Maswik Lodge during a recent visit to the Grand Canyon at a good rate. I have stayed here before at a special rate when partaking in one of the park's Field Institute courses, but this year noticed that the hotel was a bit shabbier than last year.

My room wasn't as clean as I would have liked it, and the bathtub had a big chip in the porcelain, revealing the black iron tub below the surface....and the caulking where the tub met the tile was unsightly, old and yellowed. True, I reserved knowing that the rooms do not have air conditioning, and I was grateful for the two fans, but on the second (top) floor the room got beastly hot. This might be totally unacceptable for someone who cannot sleep well in the heat. Also, there are no elevators, so if you have trouble climbing outside stairs up to the second floor with your luggage, be sure to request a first-floor room.

Also, know that the room doors are all outside accessible...again, some people might not be comfortable with this feature. Still, you're at the Grand Canyon which is an amazing place to be, and if your room is only for sleeping, then this is a more economical choice than other park hotels....and while not right in the hub-bub of being "on the rim," you can leave your car parked and take the shuttle about or walk just 7-10 minutes and you're at the Bright Angel trailhead and Lodge.

Good-sized rooms, very quiet and clean. Easy walking distance to other things in the village. Reasonably priced. I ended up needing to call the front desk about a problem - I dropped an earring down the sink drain (duh!). Within 20 minutes a plumber had arrived and retrieved the lost jewelry from the trap.

Room Tip: Two floors - might ask for first floor if you don't like steps.
