We visited the El Tovar at the Grand Canyon for two nights in May 2008. Firstly this hotel was built in 1903 and it has changed little since then, so don’t expect the Hilton. Having said that it has been preserved very nicely and is lovely to look at inside and out.
Our room was pleasantly furnished and bigger than I was expecting, although the bathroom is quite small. The staff were a little less than the hotel deserved, although not rude, they were less polished than other hotels, and the concierge/desk staff were vague.
The Dinning Room nice and has a ‘frontier like’ charm, but the menu was a little bland and small.
Overall a pleasant stay, in a location that you can’t beat. Which is probably the whole point? Expect rustic charm and you will love it, don’t expect the Ahwahnee (Yosemite).
