Though the Grand Canyon is one of the wonders of the world, it's out in the middle of nowhere in northern Arizona. There are three main ways to see this incredible natural wonder: the North Rim, the South Rim, and that glass-bottomed bridge.
The only hotel available inside the North Rim of the National Park, the North Rim Lodge was built in the 30's, and is a wonderful historical specimen. Visitors actually stay in cabins that surround the Lodge. These cabins are clean and adequate, but keep in mind they're rustic and basic. But you're there to see the spectacular views, not lounge around in an upscale suite.
The noticeable thing about the North Rim Lodge is the genuine customer service attitude of every single employee we encountered. They were friendly, helpful, and patient with questions they must've been asked countless times.
A new feature at the North Rim Lodge is their Dining Experience. Before this was added, the only dining choices were the Deli in the Pines and the Lodge dining room. The Dining Experience begins with a train/tram ride from in front of the Lodge to a tent next to the filling station. The menu includes barbequed chicken and brisket, potatoes and sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, beans, veggie stew, biscuits, salad, fruit cobbler and fresh cookies. The food is great! The service is extraordinary. While eating, a couple who sing country music and tell corny jokes entertain the diners. They're not quite up to the quality of the food and service, but they're sincere.
