Owner description: One of the two superhighways into the Canyon, the other being the Bright Angel Trail, this path runs along a ridge offering stunning views. During the summer, visitors are advised to bring at least two quarts of water along because it can get very hot and the trail offers no shade.

“Great Hike, Knee-killer!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

I injured my knee on this hike because I didn't have walking sticks/poles. Do yourself a favour and bring them as it's a steep descent for 7 miles. The view changes a lot which is really great, unlike Bright Angel. Take your time when you do it so that you can really appreciate the views rather than just looking at the path the whole time. We took the hiker's express bus at 8:00 and were on the trail by 8:30, we were at Phantom Ranch by 13:30. We carried two litres of water, but they recommend three. In the summer, you have to have three. The sun is on you for the majority of this hike, even in the winter, your face can burn.

“Great Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

What an incredible walk! Great views of canyon vistas! However, be aware that this is a steep trail down and no water is available, so make sure you have plenty with you. Also, the mules go up and down this way as well, so be sure to have a bandana available to cover your mouth and nose--otherwise you'll get a lot of dust--and who knows what else up your nose! Be sure to train before going down this trail, and I would not recommend coming out of the Canyon via this route. It is very steep.

“Great hike!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Walk down to Ooh Aah to see beauty from inside. It takes about 35 minutes to walk to that point. This is for regular folks, in pretty good physical shape. November is a perfect time, starts out cool, and ends up warm.

“Wonderful views!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

Hiked this trail down to Phantam Ranch on 10/31 and saw spectacular scenery. Although there was alot of smoke in the canyon from controlled burns, there were still tremendous views offered by the canyon. This trail is a little steeper than Bright Angel but was still fairly easy to hike down. We trained for many months before this trip and still had a hard time on the climb back up, so know your limits.

“Watch your step, or leave the driving to us!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

This trail is steaper and shorter than Bright Angel Trail. It is also
located at a shuttle stop, not in the immediate Rim lodge/gift shop
area. The views are breathtaking, but I'll stay with the mules--and leave the driving to them. (As the wranglers say--the dudes can look, the mules have seen the views before, so the mules will watch the trails--just leave the driving to the wranglers and the mules and enjoy the spectacular views!
