“Swiftcurrent isn't perfect, but motel rooms OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2005

We have stayed in the Swiftcurrent Motel units for years, and found them to be a decent value for our buck. In our most recent stay, the bedroom and bath were immaculate, with upscale soaps, etc. Hot water worked fine, and we did not hear a peep from our neighbors. It was nice to be able to park at the door, and to be but yards from some of the greatest hiking trails in the Park.

I do not stay in the Pine Top rooms since a Glacier Park Inc reservation clerk told me they should be avoided. We have stayed in the cabins when no motel units were available, and found them to be far too cramped. But the Swiftcurrent Motel is adequate, beats the heck out of sleeping in a tent, is less expensive and and quieter than the hotel. Who cares if the room is not a Hilton since, with these surroundings, you are only going to be the room long enough to sleep.

I stayed in a Swift Current Pine Top Motel room and it was without a doubt the loudest/noisiest place I have ever stayed in. The "motel" has a central corridor with a wooden deck. People would come in late at night and would roll their luggage which sounded like a freight train. I could easily hear all of the conversations in the rooms next door. This place is a real junker - I would have had a better stay outdoors. The Park Service needs to cancel the contract with the operator however since it is one of only two hotels in the area and they are almost always full, I doubt any improvements will be made. Stay there at your own peril.

We stayed in one of the rooms at the Swiftcurrent, not the cabins. The room was very basic, the beds were too small to sleep two people comfortably, and the shower was a challenging adventure in alternating hot and cold surprise. But all of that is secondary to the location of this place. Step outside your room and you are confronted with huge beautiful mountains and quick access to backcountry hiking trails. No doubt this room cost too much money for the value, but the location was so great that we didn't mind all that much. You're a short drive from Many Glacier Hotel and the goings-on there, but given the choice between the two, I would stay at Swiftcurrent again ... Many Glacier was a swarming beehive of people, and if you're sensitive to the smell of smoke, be advised that the big lobby there reeked of wood smoke from the fireplace which always seemed to be burning ... in cooler months that would be cozy, but in late June it felt too warm for me. Also, a fellow traveler we met who was staying at Many Glacier told us that it was really noisy and that the walls were so thin she "could hear someone peeing next door." Ah, the sounds of the wilderness. So, I'll take the peace and quiet of Swiftcurrent, and with all its shortcomings, I would stay there again because of its location. I do agree with another reviewer, though: I think Glacier National Park ought to consider razing and replacing all the Swiftcurrent accommodations ... this gorgeous piece of land deserves better than what is currently on it.

All the cabins and the motel units at Swift Current should be razed and a new structures erected. There is no historical or architectural significance to these buildings. They are nondescript on the outside and pure ugly on the inside. We stayed in a motel unit, which I believe was built in the 50's or 60's, and the soundproofing is non-existent. Your neighbor's every word can be clearly heard, and when they walk, that is heard and felt as well. On the plus side, the beds were okay, but I would never stay here again.

The on-property restaurant is an Italian restaurant which we tried for dinner. I ordered a house salad and a pasta dish which came with garlic bread. The butter used on the bread was rancid, and the salad greens were baby greens but they were wilted and the texture of rubber bands. Our server was inexperienced and inattentive. I would never eat there again.

My wife and I stayed here after coming off the trail from hiking. Check in was ok. Rooms are small cabins. There is no hot water in the rooms and there is a public shower; you are issued tokens to use them. At 8 at night they ran out of hot water. The shower handle worked opposite-cold was hot and hot was cold. Staff didn't tell us this. Used a token for cold water; when I needed more, staff was unfriendly. When asked when hot water would come back staff said "it has been a busy day". No appology from them. Knob was off the electric heater. We didn't figure that out till next morning, so spent a cold night. Screen door slams. Room so small bed up against the wall. Was only curtain to pull (no door) for toilet in room. Shower stall in room, but no hot water for it. Nice venue in mountains, short distance from Many Glacier Hotel, which is nice to go to for breakfast. Would not stay here again.
