“Fine for one night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012

We were only staying here as a stopover for 1 night.

The location is great - a few minutes drive from Denali NP. All the staff we dealt with were very friendly, helpful and hard working. Our room was very clean - no signs of previous guests leftover.

The room was dated (reminded me of National Park accommodation), but perfectly functional. Our room had a big walk in shower - one of those units with plastic walls rather than tiles, and a shower curtain rather than shower screen (fortunately the shower is large enough that the curtain doesn't attack you!). I think the bathrooms may have been updated, even if the furniture in the rooms has not. The bed was comfortable.

There is free wifi in the lobby (but not in the rooms) which runs at a reasonable speed, but for some reason Facebook is blocked. Get with the century Denali Bluffs!!

If a view is important, please note that only some of the rooms have views. Lots just look at the building immediately in front. If you want any sort of view, then you definitely want a room on the top floor (otherwise you will only have a building view). A lot of people who have written previous reviews have expressed disappointment at the lack of a view, so ask for a top floor room with a view before you leave the front desk when checking in.

We only had breakfast in the restaurant and it was fine. It is easy walking distance to the restaurants in the glitter gulch, so I don't think the hotel dining is the most important feature.

In summary, if it were possible to give this a "quite good" rating, I would. For an overnight stay for Denali where you just want something clean and convenient, this is perfect. But with dated decor, no in room wifi and Facebook blocked it's not "very good", so a 3 rating it is.

Room Tip: A room on the top floor is essential if you want a view. And even then, not all rooms have a view.

We stayed at the Denali Bluffs for two nights in June. The hotel was clean although many of the areas were a little tired and dated. The Staff was exceptional and very helpful. Our room was clean and average sized. There was no refrigerator, and we did miss that. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone who can not easily navigate hills and steps as all of the paths go up and down hills and many of the rooms are upstairs with no elevators. The parking is a fair distance away, especially if you arrive later in the evening. We ate one night at the restaurant and had sandwiches. They were good, but not exceptional. We ordered the box lunches for our Denali Bus trip. They were OK, but not worth the $15 per box. In hindsight we should have gone to Subway. There is a shuttle available if you do not have a car, which was a plus. The hotel location is very good and close to everything.

We stayed here for 2 nights on a recent visit to Denali. We paid extra for a room with a view but any possible view was totally blocked by 2 giant trees; in addition, the room was very close to the main road so was very noisy at night as trucks seemed to thunder by continuously. The whole hotel looks in need of a facelift. There really should be a fridge in the room considering on a day trip to Denali you need to bring a box lunch.

The location is very good - easy walking distance to the other restaurants and shops on the Denali 'strip' - it a drive (or bus) to the park entrance but this is true of all hotels.

We had pre-purchased $100 F&B package for $80 when we booked some 6 months prior - this turned out to be a bad decision. In order to use this credit we had dinner one evening at their restaurant - the food was extremely ordinary and cost $20 more than a much better meal we had the famous Salmon Bake only a 2-3 minute walk away.

On the morning we were to depart housekeeping literally barged in before 8am while we were still in bed - made no sense as why even enter a room unless you know the occupants have checked out.

The Denali Bluffs lodge is a stone throw away from the Denali entrance. The campus is big and beautiful. The rooms were good. Overall a good stay.

Don't go to Denali expecting the Ritz, it doesn't exist. Our stay at Denali Bluffs met our needs, the room although dated was clean, service was good and staff friendly. Front desk staff didn't volunteer much info but if you asked a direct question they provided info...if taking the train ask them in advance about procedures for luggage at checkout, we wouldn't have known if we didn't ask the night before (we stayed early in season and staff was still new and learning). Breakfast buffet very over priced, you will do better at the Salmon Bake restaurant (yes, they serve bkfst).
We paid for a room with a view, it was not worth the extra money in my opinion. Shuttle bus service was reliable.
Property is very hilly, so this should be considered when requesting a room if you have difficulty walking up and down hills.
If we ever go back (and I hope we do), I would stay here again.

We booked a king room with a view (and price to match) for our 3-day stay here but on arrival were given a room with no view at all, it looked directly out on the back of the cabin opposite. Returned to the desk to get another room but the only king room available had a view of the roof of the next cabin and a partial view of the mountains blocked by trees. Asked for a reduction in price and were told this had to be escalated to management, but on checkout were charged the full original price. Had to leave to catch flight so no time to complain. Very disappointed. Food in mountaineer grill was so-so, although staff were friendly and enthusiastic. Check out time is advertised as 10am though on one day we were woken by housekeeping at 8am wanting to service our room! Not good when on vacation and wanting to sleep in! No "Do Not Disturb" sign provided for door. Good location near Denali National Park with free shuttle bus into town, though close enough to walk if in a hurry. So if you are looking for a mid-price hotel near the park and the town then this is as good as any. Just don't pay for a view - there isn't one.

Room Tip: Cabin 10 has the King rooms but don't bother booking these as none of them have a view. Looking...

The proximity of the hotel to Denali National Park is great and they run free shuttles down to the shopping/dining area of town. The rooms are a bit older and they are close to the highway which can get noisy. Also, when they ask if you want to upgrade to a room with a view it's a con - all the rooms have an ok view.
