I stayed at this hotel with my parents and sister in 2 rooms. We are all adults. We did a 7 day cruise on the Sapphire Princess and spent 2 nights at the Denali Princess Lodge.

LOCATION:
The location of the hotel is great. Just minutes from Denali Nat'l Park. Across the street are lots of shops and restaurants. I highly recommend the fish & chips at the Salmon Bake. I must've had fish & chips at 5 different places over the course of the vacation and theirs was the best! The hotel is on the Nenana River which was a nice overlook.

HOTEL:
The main building is very nice with tons of seating which is good because of all the buses that leave there each day! There is free wireless in the lodge and 3 computers if you didn't bring your own. The connection is spotty but hey, it's free and you're in the middle of nowhere! We took the shuttle to Denali Park and it was no problem. We went for the sled dog demonstration and they knew they would have lots of people so they had numerous buses lined up instead of just one. There is a large variety of shops and restaurants on site. We ate at the pizza place which was suprisingly good. We also had the cinammon rolls from the coffee shop in the main lodge which were tasty.

(Slight gripe here - when I went to get my cinnamon roll, I was the only one in line and there were 4 people working behind the counter. One was icing cinnamon rolls and the other 3 were apparently all trying to fix the coffee machine. Then the icing guy came over to try and help and all 4 of them are standing around watching the other try to fix the coffee machine. They had about 10 cups lined up of drinks to make. Now I think it's important to fix the machine but I don't think you need 4 people especially when only 1 really knows what he is doing. It took about 5 minutes of me standing there (yes they saw me) before finally someone came to take my order!)

Some of the buildings are a "healthy" walk from the lodge but they have a trolley that takes you around. Thankfully our building was the closest so we didn't have to deal with that. Also, because we came off the cruise ship, all our luggage was delivered and picked up from our rooms which saved a lot of hassle. They also had all our room keys and assignments ready to go when we got off the bus so there was no big crowd to check in.

ROOMS:
The rooms were your typical hotel room with a large bathroom. There is no A/C and probably you don't need it but it was warmer than normal so it would have been nice. There is a floor fan. My biggest gripe with this room were the walls! They were paper thin. I could hear every movement and sound from the people above me. And with no "white noise" from an A/C, I couldn't fall asleep until the other guests went to bed. When the person upstairs flushed their toilet, it sounded like a giant waterfall was going to come crashing through the ceiling.

I'd also like to point out the lady (another guest) with the young toddler who let him go screaming and running down the hallway at 11pm at night. This is NOT OK. I opened the door and she just smiled at me. When I let her know it was late at night and people were trying to sleep, she coyly said "sorry" then watched as her son continued to scream and run up the hallway. I called up the front desk and they quickly sent someone down to our building but of course by then, she was gone.

The room service left something to be deserved as well. I came back from a long day to find that our the sink area hadn't been wiped down (there was still a hair in there... was it even mine?) and that a wet towel had simply been re-folded and placed on top of another towel making that one wet. My parents didn't have this issue though and their room was right next door.

Overall, it was a nice hotel and certainly convenient. From reading the other reviews, it seems a lot better if you book this as some sort of Princess package so everything is included. Just bring ear plugs with you and eat across the street!

The lobby and grounds are beautiful but the rooms are VERY low quality. The beds and pillows are terrible, especially for a room that is $200 a night. There was no coffee in the room, you had to walk down to one of the restaurants to wait in line to buy an overpriced cup of coffee. They try to extract money out of you at ever chance. Because we were not with their cruise they wanted to charge us $10 per person per day to use the hotel shuttle in addition to the $200 a night room price. We had to get our travel agent involved to get the shuttle charges eventually reversed. The TV was old and small and the room didn't even have a closet. The staff consists mostly of foreign students that didn't know much about the hotel or Alaska. The bar tender could not even describe the beer selection. After this experience we won't be taking a cruise with Princess any time soon!

We sailed up to Alaska on the Coral Princess cruise ship and then rented a car to tour the state. We stayed at the Kenai Princess and then at the Denali Princess so I think I know what the Princess experience should be. I am sorry to say that the Denali Princess falls well short of the Princess standards.

The entire complex is huge and there is alot to be impressed with. The main lobby is nicely appointed. There are plenty of opportunities to shop. There are some nice views of the river if you are willing to walk abit. The Pizza place was pretty good but expensive. Parking was difficult but we were always able to find a slot.

Where our experience went bad was with our room and the staff. The room was nothing special but would have been adequate except the Bathroom Fan was loud enough to wake the dead. It was so loud, we hated to turn it on in fear of disturbing the neighbors. OK, we could deal with it but what what ticked us off was the staff indifference/inaction to our concerns after repeatedly reporting the problem to them over the course of a couple of days.

Unless you can get a good price, say $100 - $150 per night, I would not recommend this place to anyone.

We got a real bargain on this (two for one and including transportation from Anchorage) or I would have been really mad!!! This was not a nice hotel. We stayed at the Princess Kenai and it was much better. We had lousy mattresses and room was spartan at best. Carpet looked 100 years old and bedding was the same. I had the same salmon dish at the Kenai Princess and here and it was lousy at the Denali Princess. The pizza place was only ok. Transportation to and from park was good but we had to pay $26 to get to the park (or walk the 2 miles) because the first shuttle from the hotel left at 7 am and our park bus left at 7:15. I would not recommend this hotel or stay there again. Others we talked to had the same opinion.

I was shocked to read so many of these reviews. I have to say I'm a very discriminating traveler and very snooty when it comes to hotels, and I was totally impressed by this place -- AND, I wasn't a cruise ship passenger. It is so charming, large, onsite shopping/activities, scenic and central to everything. I do believe my room had been recently renovated as everything seemed to be brand, spanking new! I would stay here again in a heartbeat. I've been MANY, MANY places, and my trip of 2 weeks to Alaska, including the Denali area, was the trip of a lifetime!
