“Very nice campground!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

We stayed here just one night, and we were very happy with the campsite that we had. We have a truck with camper, and the parking area was level, with a little hill that had a picnic table and firepit/grill. The area was very clean. While we didn't utilize any of the bathroom facilities on the loops, they looked clean from the outside, We were on Caribou loop, on the furthest side from the mercantile. My kids and I decided to walk to the mercantile and it was a short walk, even while toting a couple of bundles of firewood back! We went into the bathroom/laundry/shower area at the mercantile, and it was clean, with plenty of room.

I don't enjoy campsites that are super close to everyone else, so that you feel like your conversations are all being overheard, and this one was great! There were trees and paths, so you could visit if you choose. (A couple kids came over to pet our pug.) We spent a couple hours just sitting around the fire, and while we could see other fires, we couldn't hear the conversations, so that was nice.

My only minor complaint was the gal checking us in. She was abrupt and bossy. She didn't look up AT ALL when talking to us, just rattled off a bunch of info. Luckily our interactions with the other staff at the mercantile were friendly. Maybe she was just burnt-out by the end of summer?

Otherwise, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

Room Tip: Drive around the loops! The sites aren't assigned, and they have many different configurations t...

Clearly a good opportunity to save money vs the exensive lodge around. Nice location, shuttle coming there to go to the WAC, nice shop ans wifi near the campground. Perfect to start or end a Denali trip.

We stayed here during our visit to Denali National Park. The price was OK (~$22, I think) but the sites and the layouts were great. There was a great balance between number of sites, trees and space / privacy. The mercantile was pretty close too and it was great overall. I'd definitely go back in a heartbeat.

When we arrived in Denali at 7 PM after arriving in Anchorage at 1 AM and renting our RV and leaving Anchorage at 2 PM, we were pretty tired and ready to relax.

Due to our late arrival, the RV park was mostly full and we ended up staying in the farthest of the 3 camping areas (Caribou area). It really didn't matter much as there were clean restrooms in every area and it wasn't a long walk to the Wilderness Access Center for a shower and to make small purchases.

Each site was large enough to accomoidate good sized campers (ours was a 26' Gulfstream) and had a picnic bench and fire pit.

The showers were clean and of decent size and one of the nice things was that there wasn't a time limit on shower duration. There was a $4 charge per shower, but they will provide you a clean towel.

All in all a great place to stay if you're planning to spend any time in Denali.

Room Tip: Most places were fairly quiet after 10 PM, but all of them had issues with mosquitos. Bring your De...

We stayed there two nights in late May. We ended up there a day early of our reservation as we ventured off our original plan. When we arrived, we found out that the other two campgrounds in Denali were closed due to the flooding from "the melt." Since there was a spot open that 'day early' we opted to give up our original reserved second day in exchange so that others could have a stay. (They were doing everything they could to accommodate the guests booted from their reserved spots in the flood zone.) The sites were very spacious and in an enclosed wooded area. The walk from the sites to the shower / store area was 4 mins at best. It is also within walking distance of the trail heads and the Wilderness Access Center (WAC / Shuttle bus area) The showers were very clean and a decent size to move around in. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We stayed at Riley Creek for two nights July 19 & 20, 2012 in our 32' RV rented from Great Alaskan Holidays. Our spacious site was next to the walkway to the Mercantile. It was very quiet, and we really enjoyed this campground. We especially enjoyed the close proximity to the Wilderness Access Center (WAC) where all the bus tours depart from. We had reservations on the very early shuttle bus from WAC to Wonder Lake. We waited at the shuttle bus stop in the campground and rode it to WAC. After our all day shuttle trip to Wonder Lake, we walked back to our campsite. We could have walked both ways, as it was an easy walk.

The Mercantile has all the basic supplies, WiFi, and showers. Our son charged his iPod, cell phone, camera, etc. in the covered area outside. One night, they closed the shower building about 30 minutes early, so don't wait until the last minute. We were able to use the bathroom in the Mercantile instead.

The area for servicing holding tanks is large and well layed out. We did not have to wait, and this did not take long at all.

There is so much to see in Denali. We could have stayed longer in this very nice park campground.

We stayed here for two nights, in a spacious tent pitch, in August 2011 (sorry for the delay, we have only just got home after a year of travelling...). Sites are well-spaced and because of the loop design, are all close to amenities. Loos etc were clean. The site shop (Riley Creek Mercantile) has the basics (and free wifi) and the Wilderness Access Centre sells hot drinks. It was great to camp in the park, especially to be so close for the early start for our whole day tour of the park in a bus driven by Kim, guide extraordinaire. We drove out to "Glitter Gulch" for supper both evenings, as everything in the park closes before or at nightfall, which was fine as it's not very far and there's plenty of choice! It was also lovely to be able to walk from the camp down to the creek and under the railway bridge one evening.
