We found the place rustic - perhaps a bit run down - and a wonderful spot! The staff was friendly, the included breakfast simple but good, and the view from the River cabins if not stunning at least a very nice 'classic' Alaska scene.
Just today we booked again as one of three locations (out of 7) we choose to stay at a second time on this, our second trip thanks to free 'overbooked' air tickets.
Downside: Understand this is NOT a resort hotel or cruise ship operation but are at about the same nightly cost. Most or all riverfront cabins will have a partial bridge view upriver; you are some distance from town, cabins are very small and could use a bit of paint/varnish (however ours was very, very clean). Having said that, why are we going back?
Hiking along the fairly narrow river, swimming - if you dare - off the gravel bank (I DID - but be careful the river is very swift so wear a life jacket - frankly I can't say I'd recommend doing so!), and a feel very very different feel from the similarly priced and much more nicely furnished rooms 'in town'.
The staff worked hard to meet our transportation needs on their scheduled shuttle to 'downtown' (such as it is) Denali. The woman who answers 'before season' booking provided what we found to be helpful, 'stright forward' information when we called their 800 number about lodging options in the area (same number reserves several related properties).
Accept the 'Cabins' for what they are, and enjoy!
