“Very good choice at Denali.”

Denali River Cabins

Clean, roomy, rustic with comfy bed. The bathroom was fine, and we had access to the river just off our little porch. The room (our own little cabin) was just what we expected from the pictures. We had easy access to the parking area. While we were aware of other guests walking on the connecting plank walkways between the cabins, this wasn’t a problem since most everyone went to be early (we had to be up before dawn to get the bus into Denali Park.) The restaurant had tasty entrees, very filling, and a modest wine selection. The second night we went to the restaurant at the larger resort across the way which offered slightly more choices of cuisine and a bit more variety. Overall B++

Quiet cabins along the river. Three hiking trails nearby. Clean! Excursions will pick you up at the cabins. Carefully time your shuttle bus. Convenience store nearby. Two restaurant choices.
Away from commercial area--very peaceful!!! Take the all-day river rafting adventure--fabulous!!!

We found the place rustic - perhaps a bit run down - and a wonderful spot! The staff was friendly, the included breakfast simple but good, and the view from the River cabins if not stunning at least a very nice 'classic' Alaska scene.

Just today we booked again as one of three locations (out of 7) we choose to stay at a second time on this, our second trip thanks to free 'overbooked' air tickets.

Downside: Understand this is NOT a resort hotel or cruise ship operation but are at about the same nightly cost. Most or all riverfront cabins will have a partial bridge view upriver; you are some distance from town, cabins are very small and could use a bit of paint/varnish (however ours was very, very clean). Having said that, why are we going back?

Hiking along the fairly narrow river, swimming - if you dare - off the gravel bank (I DID - but be careful the river is very swift so wear a life jacket - frankly I can't say I'd recommend doing so!), and a feel very very different feel from the similarly priced and much more nicely furnished rooms 'in town'.

The staff worked hard to meet our transportation needs on their scheduled shuttle to 'downtown' (such as it is) Denali. The woman who answers 'before season' booking provided what we found to be helpful, 'stright forward' information when we called their 800 number about lodging options in the area (same number reserves several related properties).

Accept the 'Cabins' for what they are, and enjoy!

“Avoid this place”

I suggest avoiding these cabins. They were very rustic but more importantly, they were not working well---burned out light bulbs, dead bees in window cell, bathroom door did not close. No one to help with luggage which had to be carried some distance across gravel and up stairs to room. Daily checks and cleaning of rooms obviously lacking. Staff seemed indifferent. Food was only so-so. Major highway right outside making it very noisy with trucks traveling through during the night. River facing cabins were not actually ON the river. Place across the street had better rooms, better food and better service.

The River Front cabins do not have a river view (or at least three of them don't) through the THICK stand of trees!!

They only had 3 of our 4 rooms, even though they acknowledged that our reservation was indeed for 4 rooms ... they finally find a 4th room for us, in the Cedars Lodge, and didn't want to refund the price difference that we'd prepaid (because the Lodge rooms are less expensive than the River Front cabins).

The noise is horrible ... people walking/running on the boardwalks is like hearing a thundering herd of elephants ... and then there is the highway noise (all night long).

There was no cooling in the rooms at all.

There are no black out shades/curtains (which is an issue for people not used to the "land of the midnight sun").

The rooms are TINY with a double bed (not queen) and twin ... not enough room for 3 adults to move around the room without crawling over each other and/or the furniture.

Hot water was barely warm.

The food in the restaurant was barely palatable ... and for one family member on a gluten free diet, there was NOTHING offered that she could eat. We ended up going across the drive way to the McKinley Village and ate at their restaurant (which was very good).

Customer service does NOT exist here. Pray that you have no probelms, because if you do, they won't be addressed.
