“Basic Cabin Experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

If you want 5 stars this is not it. The cabins are small but cute. We stayed for 3 nights in late Aug. and it was very cold at night. They have propane heaters installed in the walls, but ours turned off in the middle of the night and the temperature in the cabin fell into the 40's which made me sick. The management did there best to fix the situation and gave us an electric heater which worked well. The walls are thin and have no insulation so people walking by your cabin can easily be heard inside. When it rained the carpet inside the front of the door got wet and soggy. The cabins were clean and kept up well, as long as you don't need a lot of frills they were acceptable.

The cabins were expensive compared to some others around but overall were nice. The breakfast buffet was good and our two kids ate free.

People may complain about the cabins' size but we had no issues with them. Overall, it was fine and I'd stay here again.

We had three rooms in the lodge. I was not especially impressed with the majority of the staff at this location. One lady was really nice, and one of the waiters in the restaurant were really nice, but other than that - eh. I was not thrilled with having to drag my roller suitcase through deep gravel to carry it up a flight of stairs to my room. Not cool. I mean, when you come to Alaska for vacation, you've got heavy bags! At least make it easier to get to the room with your stuff!! The rooms were decent, and had the basic things one might need (hair dryer). I must say, I did not think the bed was all that comfortable. We did not have much wifi and the TV only got a handful of stations, none of which were clear.

I left my battery charger (with battery) on the wall in the room. I called back later in the day, told the staff exactly where it was in the room, and asked them to mail it to me (at my cost). She ensured they had my credit card information to bill the mailing expense, but to date, no charger or battery. It's been almost a month, so I'm thinking I'm not going to get it.

Overall, ok, but overpriced and underwhelming.

Situated just outside the park, this was a great value compared to some of the other hotels & cabins in the area. The room was pretty tiny, but the website made that clear from the beginning so we were expecting it. It was clean, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: The cabins with a view are right on the river and we wished we had booked one of those.

We stayed in the cedar lodge part of the "Denali River cabin" which was kind of confusing when you are coming in trying to follow the signs which do not say anything about the lodge part and since there is a separate lodge in the same turn off.
Anyways, make sure to check out the buy one night get one night free on the rivercabin website if you stay before June 15th which can save over $100.
The room was fairly small and the tv had 3 fuzzy channels, but we were not in the room very much anyways since that is not why we went to Alaska.
It also would have been nice if they served a free breakfast with the stay since they do have a restaurant onsite.

Room Tip: get a top foor since we could hear people walking and muffled conversations above us.

We stayed here two nights. It is close to the Highway, but away from town, which can be a plus. The staff was courteous, and helpful. The restaurant serves a hearty breakfast buffet. We were picked up for our bus tour of Denali National Park right across the street from the cabins, which saved a drive into the park. The rooms were what I expected from a cabin, and much better than Yellowstone, or the Teton NP's. They are right on the Nenana River, which was really flowing fast and would be fun to raft. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: We chose the least expensive cabins, and were very satisfied.

We stayed in cabin 25 for a couple nights in July and found it quite comfortable. Our cabin was recently remodeled, and quite acceptable. It was rustic, but provided a good, affordable place to stay while we visited Denali national park. Some cabins are near the road and there's a lot of noise but ours wasn't. Yes, you can hear when people walk by outside, and they can hear you from outside (so keep it down :). The grounds are clean and well maintained and you can easily stroll along the river.

Room Tip: Choose a cabin away from the road to avoid road noise. The Nenana river is quite loud so if you...
