“Great Option when visiting Denali National Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

Spectacular views, clean comfortable rooms. We received excellent service and the friendly staff made the stay very enjoyable. The buffet breakfast was great and the restaurant in the hotel was both convenient and one of the best in the area. We have stayed in other hotels in the area, but felt that this was one of the best. Prices are a little high for the rooms, but you are paying for that spectacular view.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a room with a view facing the park. The view is spectacular.

My friend and I received a free upgrade and end up staying at this property. It is located on top of a steep hill. It is a good option near to Denali NP entrance. Rooms are spacious and adequate. If you get a room with a view, you will be overlooking the park.
The lobby of the hotel is very beautifully decorated, and has a nice gift shop. Breakfast is extra and available at the property.
Everything in Denali or Alaska is almost universally expensive, so one should be prepared for that when planning for a trip.

When choosing a hotel for our Denali visit, I agonized over the options before settling on the Grande Denali Lodge (or "The Grande," as the locals call it). I'm happy to report that it ended up being the ideal place for our needs. It was above the fray of Glitter Gulch with spectacular panoramic views from the rooms and Alpenglow restaurant (which was both excellent and very convenient). A complimentary shuttle took visitors to and from the downtown strip and also to and from the tour buses frequently throughout the day and evening, so we didn't need a car at all (for an extra fee, a shuttle took visitors to and from the train station as well). Service was solid and everything was clean. It was an inviting, comfortable place to come back to after a long day on the bus. There were more economical lodgings available, but the Grande couldn't be beat for its balance between accessibility and seclusion.

There is nothing luxurious about this place other than the location. Denali being a seasonal place high price is understandable. But at that price they could make the place better. High priced average food. Nothing to say anything speical about the rooms either.
The people provided excellent service.
Your choices in Denali are pretty limited.

Cheap motel 6 style rooms, shuttles that don't run on schedule and unapologetic management about it, unorganized and everyone passing the blame on everyone else. Overpriced everything, tired employees who want to be anywhere but there. This is not the quality you would expect from a resort. You'd have better luck at the hostel up the road. You get what you pay for there! Try McKinley cabins or Princess if you want organized and caring staff/ management.

I am so sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us - I am even more concerned that you stayed with us in May and did not give us a chance to respond to your concerns until September. That is a long time to be so unhappy and not express your concerns. We opened on May 20th and as you can imagine the opening of a property and having 200 new employees show up all at once for training etc. can be challenging. That is no excuse for us to not address your concerns or for you not to have a comfortable stay. Please feel free to contact me directly if you would like to share your experience with us so that we can strive to do a better job of meeting our guests expectations. Dee Dee dkay@denalialaska.com

We stay for Denali Grande Lodge for two nights. The hotel is located on top of the Mt. We booked the twin room but got a room with no view. The bed was spacious and comfortable. I like the fact that the basin was separate from the restroom. There is free wifi in the room. The only plus of staying here is the view from the lobby and watchout area is really beautiful. An awesome place to take picture of Denali National Park.
We had our dinner in the restaurant there and we feel that the quality is just average. I didn't like the fact that no breakfast is provided too.

Room Tip: Do request for a room that overlook the Denali National Park

Dear GekT, thank you for your review and for staying with us. I am pleased that you found our beds comfortable and spacious. I am sorry that you found our food "average" - I hope that you informed your server of any concerns you may have had. As for breakfast, I don't believe that any hotels in the Canyon include breakfast with the price of their sleeping rooms. We do offer several breakfast options - Grab and Go in the lobby, our Alpenglow Buffet and the option of ordering off the menu in the Alpenglow restaurant. Thank you for noticing our beautiful view. We hope you enjoyed your time in Alaska. Dee Dee Kay

The lodge restaurant and gift shop was very impressive - the room was not. It was comfortable and that's that. The separate lodge that we were in was very long with 1 center elevator so you had to walk from the check in desk in the gift shop area to the middle of the lodge then backtrack to your room. The room was reminescent more of a Motel 6 -- sparce and uninviting. Our room was a view room with balcony but no chairs there to sit and relax. They had spotted a bear on the property the week before so all the outside lights were kept on all night. The restaurant was very overpriced and the lodge secluded enough you had no other dining options. The food was average although the seafood fettichine was so strong I could not eat but a few bites and I am an avid fish lover.

Dear Srtravelers3, thank you for your review. I am happy that you enjoyed the view. We are making upgrades to our sleeping rooms for 2014. The suggestion of chairs on our little balconies is a wonderful idea and I will make sure that we pass it on to our General Manager. As for the restaurant - did you let your server know you were unhappy with your meal? I am sure we would have been happy to prepare you something else. Although "secluded" we do offer a complimentary shuttle service 12 hours a day that gives our guests the option to explore other dining options and the "Canyon" shops. I do hope you will visit us again and see the changes we have made. Dee Dee Kay
